I drove an Altima with a 3.5, i actually had to get out and pop the hood to verify it was a v6 and not a 4 cylinder, noisy as hell, very slow to rev and essentially powerless. Subaru's are very popular with lesbians

I'm confused how you thought the 3.5 was slow and powerless...the one I drove was pretty damn quick. And I'm sure it would be tons of fun in manual.
I checked online and there aren't any good Subarus in the price range we're looking in. We dont wanna pay more than 9K and it's all done in cash so that helps keep us from spending more than we should by financing.

OH most definitely. The 3.5 is the ONLY way to go. You don't have to educate me on the speed of it. I'm almost tempted to trade the wife my Miata for the Altima! I'd go through gas and tires like crazy though.

Yes I AM! Our Subie is a 2.5 GT which means it's turbo. Ours is also a 5 speed manual. With the up and down pipe and stage II tune it's right at 250bhp at the wheels (give or take a few hp) 300 or so at the crank. My wife loves the car and it gets good MPG to boot. My buddy sees high 20's with his '02 Maxima.

The VQ series engines were awarded best engine or made the top of the list for many years, they are without doubt somewhat noisy, you want quiet buy grandpas toyota. One reason that most of the cars with VQ engines are that way is because nissan/infinity has the balls to put a decent exhaust in them...
My wifes FX35, 275HP, has a very nice performance sound to it, plus it'll top out at 155.

The VQ35 in the Altima has been offered at never less than 240hp up to 270hp

Keep in mind a Colorado isn't really a Chevy...it's a re-badged Isuzu. Same deal with the GMC Canyon.

Designed and engineered by Isuzu, manufactured in Thailand, shipped to the US and GM slaps a bowtie on the grill. Meh. Briefly rode in one, and definetly agree that they just "feel" cheap. No power, bad seats, lots of rattles inside, even the radio sucked. The newer Rangers are much nicer, even in base trim, and if you get the 4.0 V6, have decent power for a small truck.

I don't see why the dealer wouldn't go for it, espically if you show them the KBB values, which is what they look at in the "back room" and then knock off a percentage for themselves.

Nissan's have greatly improved in recent years. We used to have a 99 Infiniti i30 and while it was a decent car, it had lots of "bugs" and annoyances. Windows just stopped working much below freezing. Trunk got stuck all the time....would pop the fuse for the heated seats every so often. Unlocked front axle, sucked butt in the snow, even by FWD standards. Gas gauge was wonky and inaccurate...ect. No major problems, no breakdowns, just lots of little annoyances. Newer Nissans/infiniti's seem to be much improved and up to Lexus/Acura standards now, though I'd still give the nod to Honda overall. My mother has had two Acura TL's(a 99 and now an 04) and both have been great cars. Never a single breakdown or other major service outside of routine maintenance. The 04 is rated at 260hp from the 3.2 V6 and it has plenty of giddy-up. Only thing I don't like about the newer one is the variable-assist steering...if you push it through a corner hard the computer can't seem to pick a level for the assist...you can feel it stiffen...loosen....stiffen again in the wheel. Kinda annoying.

HAve you even been 155 in it? didn't think so. A great exhaust over todays factory exhaust on a car will give MAYBE 5 more horsepower. MAybe. Get rid of the cats and get long tube headers and maybe 20-25 ponies. Nissans are slugs, There were a bunch of zx350 at the track one day for some kind of get together. I felt embarrassed for the guys they were so slow. $35,000 sports car that runs high 14's at 100 mph.

Did you see a 7/10 reducton in ET? Dyno numbers are pretty unreliable, 10 dynos with 10 differen operators will get 100 different readings. Weather plays a huge factor as do other things.

I know this is lame but most are seeing high 13s stock and low 13's to high 12's with my setup.

Don't know about the newer Nissan 3.5's, but the 99 3.0 V6 was good for about 130 on a good day. Much past 100 it was really creeping up in speed, probably took me at least a mile to get up to that speed. As for the '04 TL 3.2V6, that's considerably quicker. I've had it to about 140, though I've heard from several people and there's a couple youtube videos of it hitting it's governor at 150something given enough space.

No offense to anyone, but I've always associated the subaru wagons with the outdoorsy-tree hugger types, not so much lesbians. So what's the #1 gay car?

Incidentally just about any car today will likely run all the way to the speed rating of the factory tires, and then hit an electronic limit, the early 350Z's with the limiter removed (no easy task, you have to pull the ECU and mail it off to technosquare, no one makes a programmer for it, or at least nobody was two years ago) will run a solid 167-168


The first 350Z's, rated at 287hp, were high-high 13's to low-low 14 second cars, I never saw one turn high 14's unless it was a manual and the driver couldn't launch or shift for ****. Unless maybe you live in Colorado or something.....In which case everything without forced induction is a ******* slug..
I know because I have the timeslips from my wifes 04 Z pinned on the wall in the garage, as well as having seen dozens of them turn the same numbers here at Houston Raceway Park (elevation 30 feet) on Friday night drags.....

Her car with with everything you can do to one externally, plus the addition of an ATI procharger, was a low 12 second car as well as a daily driver, and put down 415 to the rear wheels, once again dyno proven...Bone stock the 287hp translated to 225 to the rear wheels, so the gain we were getting was 45% running a mild 7-8psi of boost. The engine was internally stock....

I too used to think poorly of Suburus until I started seeing the WRX sti's running low to mid 13's stock and deep in the low 12's heavily modded, hell of a lot faster than any of the old supposed "muscle" cars ever ran..

Still didn't like 'em that much anyway..

Then spent a few months in Utah last year and discovered you couldn't throw a cat without hitting one...they are a very versatile all around car expecially at high altitudes, anything without FI runs like **** up there in the high elev. Would see everything from the stereotypical granola crunching soccer moms driving them to the totally bad ass hot rod versions, everything they build is AWD, and the only engine they offer is the very superior "flat" or "opposed" 4cylinder boxer design engine,.......you wanna go fast in one all you gotta do is tturn up the boost with a few simple aftermarket electronics and waste gates blowoff valves etc.......

The body styles have grown on me too, who else makes a 4 door sedan as aggresive looking as thiers, without being fleetingly trendy like Mazda?

You don't have to believe me, I could care less, but when you're out in the Big Bend are of West Texas where you can run a hundred miles without a turn and never encounter a car your conscience is the limit...I did it and i'll leave it at that...

Car and driver doesn't calculate, nor do they accept numbers from advertisers. They've long been know in the industry as the only magazine that does full, real top speed tests.....uitilizing timiing lights or 5th wheels, not speedometers...If they don't top speed it themselves then they leave the test sheet blank and report mfgrs claimed numbers as just that...... "claimed"...

I agree about Dyno numbers not being that consistent dyno to dyno, but in taking a car from stock to wherever you take it, going back to the same dyno every step of the way holds great validity.
If I take the dyno numbers that we had and run them in a calc. her car should have been a high 11 second car, not a low 12 second car..so point proven..

nonetheless the timeslips don't lie, nor do I, maybe it was elevation but I've seen dozens of them here run low 14 and a few high 13's stock at a track that's part of the "circuit" not some mom and pop operation with questionable equipment...

Ok.....so returning back to the topic of me trading my 05 Colorado...

We've also decided (mainly because the wife has some deep desire for one) to add BMW into the list of possibilities. I found an 01 325i that was in really good shape with 9x,xxx miles for $8500. Who knows. We can't get rid of this damn truck though. Carmax offered us $7500 for it, which is an extreme lowball. I've listed it on Craigslist at $9500 OBO and I got 2 calls on it both in the same day. One guy said he was going to come look at it that night and never showed or called. The other woman decided not to go any further with it once she found out it didn't have OnStar....I'm not sure that ANY 2005 model ever did.


If anyone knows of someone who wants an '05 Colorado 4x4 with 75,000 miles in mint condition for DIRT cheap, send them my way! We need this thing GONE. I'm tired of having a false hope..
