The bike wave

You guys obviously know what I'm referring to. The bike wave is a personalized wave you give to another person on a bike. You spend some time after you first start riding to perfect it, to make you look as cool as possible. We've all got our own variations. Mine is the delayed, two finger wave. If you ever see it, it's a thing of beauty. I've adjusted through the years, and have perfected it. I look awesome when I do it! Well, the other day, I actually got the wave from a guy on a sportbike while I was in my car. I have no clue who it was as I know no one with a sportbike. It was almost like a religious experience, because I actually had another biker friend in the car with me when it happened. I have also had a guy give me the wave, and run completely off the road, because for some reason, he waved with his right hand, and a car stopped in front of him. He didn't have time to stop, so off the road he went. No real reason for posting, just figured we could share bike wave stories.

The best wave that I ever saw was at the Dyno day in Topeka Kansas last weekend. All of us had gone for a ride out in the country, and we had stopped on the side of the road about 100 yards away from an intersection for a break. 2 Harleys turn at the intersection and come toward us. The lead one starts to do like a 2 fingered salute....but as soon as he sees that its a bunch of Jap bikes, the waves just kind of falls off. It was like" Oh look there are other bikes"... and then "I'm not gonna acknowledge your existence"...

Everyone sit back and laughed.

Most harley boys are mostly stuck up pigs I wave at all 2 wheelers even scooters but my wave towards most harley boys ends up being the 1 finger salute !!

I just wave. And it don't matter if they are on a Harley, a Ducati Supersport, or even a little 50cc moped. We're ALL riders!

Some wave back, some don't. If they don't no skin off my back.

I wave at everybody when I can and don't get hooked on if they wave back or not. I'd rather watch the road in front of me. I have my own salute, 4 fingers spread in the middle. V- 4!

Sometimes I get tired of waving, so I just nod. I live in an area full of sheeple on Hardleys. Its funny, when Im on the Max, everyone waves, 'cause really they no clue whats coming at them. When Im on my streeted dirtbike/supermoto, pretty much no one waves. I chuckle quite a bit when I ride that one

Mine is the delayed, two finger wave.

The "Two fingered wave" came to be from the battle of Agincourt. During this engagement, the French would lop off the first and second fingers from captured English Longbow men to prevent them from firing arrows. When in battle, the archers would (with their digits still attached) wave those fingers at the French. Over time it has become an English method of signifying "Fuck off".
As an expat, I wave with two fingers pointed down to represent the wheels on the bike being in contact with the road unless I espy a Frenchman, in which case, I revert to the fingers pointed straight up as a method of amusement.

Yes, I use a fully synthetic wave as I pass fellow two wheelers, unless or until, I am in heavily bike-infested highways to where I would be constantly waving.

The HD rider near Topeka did certainly have a unique salute, though I'm not sure he intended to display disappointment that we weren't riding HD's. I thought he got skeered when he saw ME standing amongst the group. :confused2:

How do you warn fellow bikers of a speed trap ahead in their direction???

I learned that you tap your helmet to signify the " smoky the bear hat" that many highway patrol troopers adorn them selves with.

Any you??????

Never seen that one Lew, folks around these parts generally flash the headlamps to alert oncoming motorists to a speed trap.

I sometimes use the fast, double tap to the top of my helmet to warn oncoming bikes. I thought everyone knew that signage.

I've been on a bike for about 15 years now, and have lots of buddies that have rode much longer than that, and have never heard of tapping your helmet. I've always just flashed my light.

I don't wave to scooters because a) they never wave back and b) they aren't real motorcyclists--to most scooter riders, it's a means of transportation, not a passion.

I have literally never had a scooter rider wave to me first, or wave back when I initiate.

I ride my Honda Mini Trail around town occasionally and wave furiously at HD riders. I actually wave at anyone on a bike or the Mailman but I'm largely ignored. I feel insignificant but don't give a shit. It's funny when I meet the miscreants over a beer and listen to the pathetic excuses for not waving back. The worst are the HD crowd. Pathetic arrogance given the agricultural nature of their steeds. Odd how they largely ignore the Yamaha as well when I ride her.
There is a definite distinction between some HD riders and other mere mortals out there riding "ordinary bikes". I have to say, it makes me mad sometimes. Aren't we all the same little people wrapped up in leather whatever we ride ? :confused2:
