A buddy and I are leaving New Brunswick July 1st., destination Calgary/southern Alberta region. Hope to be there by the 10th, when Mr. Romax has tentitively scheduled an organized run in the Waterton Park area. Following Calgary, I will be solo, and probably going north to Yellowknife. From there, undetermined as yet. If weather cooperates I may head for Yukon territory and Alaska. Not sure what route I'll take home.
We are planning to stick to the trans-Canada highway on the way out west. If anyone would like to join us for a coffee (Tims, eh!?) send me a personal message, with your location and cell number. I'd also like to touch base with anyone that lives in northern Alberta, NWT, Yuk and Alaska.
Cheers, Miles:punk:

Hi Miles, i was just about to post about the Waterton ride when i saw yours. I'll Copy your post, and put it on my V-Max Canada facebook group, and the VMOA forum. We should get you some company on your tour. Stay Safe Keith

hey man let me know if you heading to the yukon or look me up in whitehorse, we'll for sure go for a ride, maybe down to skagway for the day, only 1.5 -2 hrs away.

Already PM'd you Miles but I shouldn't have any problem meeting up with you at the Timmy's in the Sault.
This is the Tim Horton's on HWY 17:

389 Great Northern Way
Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B 4Z8, Canada
(705) 949-2421
Get Directions (Location "I" on this map) The pin location is deceiving on the map. It is on the SW corner of the intersection, not around the corner on Great Northern road. Since you'll be riding in on 2nd line/ HWY 17 and then to continue on HWY 17 you would normally turn right onto Great Northern road. Instead you'll have to turn left then immediately turn right into Timmy's.

It looks like I'll be on call but I may be able to ride a few miles North(west) with you guys. It'll be great to meet you guys!

Wow! Didn't expect so many responses. The V-max community obviously is tight.
To all that replied, or will reply, I just need your phone number and location. Send me a P.M. If I am anywhere your area, I will give you a ring, with some leadtime of course.
Keith, our plans have changed a tad. My Bud still has to be in Calgary by the 17th, but now wants to se the NWT's. Consequently, that will be the first leg of our journey, so I won't be able to make the Waterton run. Bummer! But I will call you when I head south again.
If my wife is able to join me in Yellowknife , I wouldn't expect to leave the NWT till the 20th of July or so. Then I may head up to Yuk and beyond, everything dependant on the weather(wish I had Tugla's number 2 yrs. ago, maybe I wouldn't have been solo for my ride to AK) The best case scenario will put me in Fairbanks, and then some touring around the south of AK. Everybody told me NOT to miss the Valdez region, if I was to return.
To all that don't know me, I guess that would be everybody, I'm really quite harmless.
Massive dosages of liquid lithium (who else has a custom handlebar-mounted I.V.?) has my psychotic hallucinations under control, so much so that I rarely hear those voices in my head anymore. My liquor comsumption is controlled by a court-ordered ankle bracelet, just like Lindsay Lohan has to wear. Best of all, my probation officer says I am at low risk to re-offend, provided I am nowhere near a chainsaw! I carry no weapons, at least the visible ones. This will be my first unsupervised trip in over 20 yrs, I'm sure I'll blend back into society just great. Hoping to meet you all!!!!! Miles

Not me, I was in Whitehorse two years ago. Nice town! I think I stopped to buy groceries, look around, and wait for my heart to start beating again. I had driven down from Dawson in the rain, and over many torn-up road repairs and a few detours. One detour just south of Dawson comes to mind- a 10k. stretch of the highway was closed, traffic was deverted thru the woods on a "road" worse than the one going to my hunting camp. As you know, all that clay-based soil gets slick when wet! Going up hills my rear tire was spinning, my front tire was catching in the ruts caused by 18 wheelers, and I was praying that I didn't go down, because I wouldn't have been able to stand up, let alone get the bike upright! The V-Max is not a very good dirt bike. Go figure.
Got your PM with your number, hope to meet you. Miles

ya that year was bad, they had tons of wash outs and wrecked roads in spring, i drove it last fall and it was all paved(chip sealed) we did not have to go thru the forest haha. it was in my truck, i havent done it on the bike.
what did you do for fuel? carry a few jerry cans?
im actually up in dawson now for work but flew here didnt ride, maybe next time, there is the famous music festival in a few weeks, be good time to be on the bike here.

I have an auxilary gas tank, about 4 litre capacity, built into the space below the passenger seat. Gives me about a 260 k range, before the red light. The extra fuel saved my ass a few times up north, especially since some stations were closed down. I did have to camp overnight at one, so I could gas up in the morning. The owner said he had seen that a few times before. When are the dates of the music festival? Dawson was my favorite place up north. Just like something out of the wild west!
Maybe second favorite place. Chicken, Alaska, is #1 !!!

i only passed thru chicken Ak maybe next time i'll hang out.
the festival is on the 16-18 july super rockin' time from everyone i know thats been to it. summer is great in the yukon, lots of festivals and events going on. this weekend is the yukon river quest. they start in whitehorse and boat two days to dawson, in the fall the same think happens called the bath tub race. Crazy how they did it in the gold rush days, still hard today in modern stuff.

so is this tank just sitting on the second seat? or real permanent tank?

Yellowknife has a festival from 16th-18th of july . Hoping to make that one! Too many festivals, so little time!
When I crossed on the Yukon river ferry at Dawson, the operator told me that the native indians had a festival/salmon bake thing going on farther up the river, all were welcome, boats were supplied to take people up. I didn't go, and regretted it. All the more reason to go back!
The tank is permanant. It is connected to the main tank with a flexible rubber coupling. I removed all the supporting plastic under the pass. seat to make room for the tank. For touring, I have a trunk that mounts on the back of the bike, after removing the passenger rails and backrest. The fuel inlet is then on the right side of the trunk. When not on the road, I have a passenger backrest setup. The filler is then between the backrest rails, with a chrome cover over it. Cheers, Miles

sweet tank set up.
ya that festival in yk is folks on the rocks. i use to live in yk about 6 yrs, loved it miss it lots.

Miles came to the 'Hat' yesterday. We met up, had a coke, and i offered him a roof over his head for the night. We just hung out for the night. Went to Perkins for breakfast, then i rode out with him Elkwater. Great guy
