The biggest gas motor Ford has in a 1/2 ton is the 6.2.......look at the dyno graph. At 2000 RPM the Ecoboost is making over 100 lbs. more TQ then the 6.2. A Hemi would be down about the same.

The F-150 with the Ecoboost I belive has the highest tow rating of all the gas engines at 11,300 lbs.

Just sayin. ;)

When I towed from NY to Florida, I could count on 1 hand how many times on the highway the truck came out of top (6th) gear. Up long grades no sweat with that amount of TQ available.

I dont have a dyno chart....but this is the claimed specs of the 6.4 Ltr Hemi. 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.

I do wish that I could find a dyno chart for that to see the torque curve.

I think the trucks only come with the 5.7 hemi. :confused2:

Dodge has a new turbo diesel this year.... 6 cyclinder. It matches the Ford Ecoboost in TQ but makes about 100 less HP I think.

I don't disagree with you about WHERE the torque is made. Your facts are dead on. My statement is more about total numbers and my unsubstantiated feeling about a boosted V6 gas motor not outliving a bigger N/A gas motor with the same or better power numbers.

I just feel better about an N/A motor making its power naturally with less heat and abuse as opposed to the wear and tear of F/I, if it takes a different gear to get the job done so be it.

My negative feelings about F/I don't apply at all to diesels though. Different animal. If I had to go F/I for towing it would be a diesel

I'm not saying I'm right. Strictly a subjective opinion. Only time will tell about these Eco-boost engines living a long healthy life.

An F/I gas motor used in a performance application is different too (to me) and doesn't worry me so much as its not usually put into heavy boost for any length of time as compared to a towing application.

I can't speak to options on the 1/2 ton trucks but, the 3500's and up have a few engine options. 5.7 hemi, 6.4 hemi (both 8 cylinder gas) and the 6.7 diesel which they call an I-6. I'm pretty sure the 6.7 has been around since '07 when it replaced the 5.9.

Inline configuration is why I like the cummins motors. Every individual cylinders rod journal has a main on each side if it rather than two cylinders sharing a rod journal. Its the key to why the old Supras stock crank could support 40+ psi boost and a 1000+ HP

Points well taken. This stuff has been beaten to death on the Ford Truck forums.....turbo V6 vs V8.

The engine has been out 3 years now and tons of them sold and on the road........so the verdict should be in soon. I've got 60K miles on mine right now with no major issues ....knock wood.

The motor was designed from scratch specifically for this purpose so hopefully its got the right stuff.

Ford has put a lot of eggs in the Ecoboost basket, they have several versions, in fact my wifes 2013 Fusion has a 4 cylinder version.

I couldn't be happier so far........today I checked my gas mileage coming in to work, 30 miles 80% highway. 21.2 mpg, not bad for an almost 6000 lb. truck with 400+ HP and 500+ lbs. of TQ. I lose at least 1 mpg this time every year when they switch over to "winter fuel"......I'm not sure if they've made the switch yet or not. I've also lost 1 mpg with the tune I have in there now......but the power is up significantly.

I been through a few trucks Dodge has been holding up for me. 1 2500 year 2000, 1 1500 year 2002,

They can take a beating and keep on ticking...

Nice to be stuck in my own property funny.

Truck pictures stuck at home.

Well guys I did a little more chatting with the dealer today and looks like I might be buying the 2500 Laramie cummins if what I have calculated is a reality. I will keep u all posted and thank you for all of your input

Vehicles are so much better now than when I was a young man. I used to buy a new car every year or two in those days. I always ordered with exactly the options I wanted. Took about 6 weeks to get the car after ordering.

You were allowed 30 days to make a list of problems and they would fix them (or at least try). Some would have two pages of problems needing fixing. I bought a new 1976 Lincoln Continental that spent 31 days of the first 6 months at the dealer and never got the problems fixed. Paint runs, wind noise from bad window seals, various squeaks and other noises, leaking moonroof, etc. And this was from Ford's best luxury vehicle. I got rid of that car after the 6 months and didn't buy another Ford product till a 1990 Thunderbird. That car I kept for 8 years and it had no problems, even though it also had a moonroof. The last few cars/trucks I have owned have had no problems. However, I do obsess over preventative maintenance. For example, I change oil and filter every 3000 miles using Mobil 1 synthetic.

I guess the point is almost any vehicle today will be reliable unless you get that rare lemon.

You won't be disappointed with it. I recently bought a '11 2500 Ram with a Cummins. The late model 6.7's are pretty badass right out of the box. I will be putting a programmer and exhaust on mine very soon. My Mod Monkey doesn't only love Vmaxes!

Well I guess we are at the arm wrestling stage of the game and I they are coming up short about $2,500 on my trades. They came up 1k and I told them straight out that the last $1,500 is a make or break deal.... On my power stroke it is still short about 4k of what I could sell it outright for. However I am at a point where it is good deal so do you lose money on your trade . Since it is a bad time of year to do a private truck sale because of Christmas just my opinion. My bank tells me that the price that the dealer is giving me is dealer wholesale.... The truck sticker is 58k and some change, they are discounting it 9,355 but obviously are trying to regain it back by fucking my eyes out on my trade.... It was funny I called them back because they were trying to get me to fill out a credit app and I straight out told them that I would have my local bank finance it. I also told them I would take their $9,355 discount and they would give me x amount for my trades and that would be a make or break deal for me.... He almost sounded like he was shut down and it more than likely wouldn't happen.... My wife says it doesn't feel right to her so I am going to call them this morning and tell them that I am going to sell my one truck out right to get what is fair for it... Then if that truck is still there then it was meant to be

I would submit what you're looking for on one of the internet sites ie;
New Truck Prices at NewCars.com ,,,,,,,,Your phone will start to ring within minutes of you submittance. Most of the time another dealer can get that truck from the dealer you are dealing with now. I have bought quiet a few cars this way and it's intresting to see how much you can squeeze out of different dealership sales people......

If you have a CarMax handy take your truck by there and see what they offer. Generally speaking whatever they offer is about the best you can expect on trade in anywhere else.
And yes, trade in is a screwing any way you slice it compared to private sale.

Ok I did it.... They ended up giving me exactly what I wanted for my trades! I was told by my buddy that they would do it because of the time of the year. Anyways not meaning to bitch but I kind of hate the heated steering wheel. At first it is not bad, but before too long it is like "HOT PLATE HOT PLATE!" Lol

I really liked my 2010 Ram 2500 ST Crew Cab 4x4. It was great in all weather, the only issues I had were the headlights were weak, the defroster sucked, and one time the slave cylinder seized, briefly stranding me. It fixed itself that time, and otherwise was an incredible truck I wish I hadn't sold. In bad weather that truck never faltered and it was great for long trips. I would not hesitate to own another. One big plus for the Dodge, the straight front axle allows for a much tighter turning radius than other trucks with ifs.

There are two complaints I have about the truck and when dodge called me to do their survey over the phone I told them! #1. All of the 12 volt charging ports AKA cigarette lighters all run when the key is on. All I have to say is wtf ? who only charges their cell phone when driving down the road, what fucking idiots the designers are. #2 there is this automatic feature when remote started that turns on the drivers heated seat and the steering wheel and that is your only choice. I don't mind the heated seat but the steering wheel is a bit excessive I think. You cannot choose either one, either they are both on or off. So during this what about the crabby spouse that is bitching because her seat is not hot? I am simply amazed that they didn't give you more options of what was to be on or off. Trust me I hear it every time my wife gets in. I think that should be more than enough that dodge could fix that moron mistake too right? Other than the truck has been wonderful!
