Stumbled across this the other day....The GMC Futuliner. Designed to be the "land locomotive" and it certianly looks the part. The main structure was wood, covered in aluminum.
Only 12 were built, and seven are known to still exist. One off those, one with an authentic restoration just sold for over $4 million at auction, making it one of the most expensive cars ever sold.
This style was made in the early fifties. They drove across the country showcasing new technology like televisions, microwave ovens, and other miracles of the 1950s.
And this one was from the first generation, made in the late thirties
