if you measure the inside of the rubber boot in the stock air box, you will find that the inside diameter is 2 inches at the top, but just before the carb the diameter becomes 1.775 x 1.5 in height. the inside diameter gets smaller by about 20 % which accelerates the air flow, basicly you get a HIGH VELOCITY blast of air just before the carb venturi, this also helps fill the pilot air jets very well ,running this set-up with a STAGE 7 and stock pilot air jets. the throttle is very crisp at all RPM'S find it is the best set-up for independent filters
