How different are they from the VQ3.5, or VQ family in general?
No I haven't but the experiences I had with the wife's supercharged 350z tells me if its like the VQ's its just a really big and very complicated motorcycle engine with the addition of a lot if confusing electronics.
It's older than the VQ's, one is in my 300ZX. Nissan ran stock bottom ends in their ISMA race car with 30psi boost and made 1000 rwhp. Won almost every race from 84-88 and four championships.
Forged cranks, rods and pistons with 4 8 bolt mains.
I have one on my engine stand that I'm getting ready to swap in then build the old one way up.
Sounds tougher than the VQ, I wanna say their bottom end will support around 600hp max from what I was hearing when I was a regular on the 350z forums.
I've seen a half dozen different street driven Supras at the dyno day contests we use to go to put down 1000-1150 rwhp with the stock crank. A Supra won every one I've been to, beating out single and twin turbo or supercharged "muscle cars" (vettes, camaros, mustangs and vipers) every time.
Huge money in those cars yes, they were using n2o to spool up a gigantic single turbo and then making the big numbers with around 40 psi boost and no n2o.
