Vinyl wrap

Has anyone used vinyl wrap on their fenders and top cover? Specifically, the matte finish of the 2020 model. I’m curious if the matte paint causes any issues with removal down the road. I’d like to wrap my fenders and top cover to both protect them and change the color. Anybody have experience with this?

I wouldn't think a quality vinyl wrap would hurt a matte finish...they wrap matte cars all the time and I've got XPEL Stealth PPF on my matte black Ducatis and I cannot imagine I'd have any issues if I ever had to remove the film, it would just take some heat and careful removal.

Might want to call a local PPF/wrap installer and ask them.

Thanks, I figured that a factory paint would be ok, but I didn’t want to mess anything up. I’ll look into the expel.

I tried vinyl wrapping but gave up because it wouldn't stretch round the tank even when using a hair dryer. It might be that I was trying to use the wrong stuff. I will take the parts off and let the professionals do it next time.

Wrapping is definitely an acquired skill and I've gone through more PPF in learning than if I had paid someone to do it for me but I now have a reasonable grasp of it.

Vinyl should be moderately easier as it's thinner than PPF and a little easier to work with but it's still an 'art'.

Good to know. I was also thinking that the bike parts would be more difficult to handle since they are smaller. I think it would be easier to wrap a car door that is stationary rather than a fender that is off the bike.

I have a 2010 which is the Red color, I had a guy who specializes in wraps, do the work , cost was about $400.00, I went with the mat Black color and added a little accent stripe, you cant see it in this picture but its a 1.5" Carbon fiber Black Ribbon that runs down the center of the Fenders and Tank.
it turned out perfect and if i ever want to go back to the original i can take it off. very happy with it.

With PPF it's easier with the part on the bike as you're not typically looking for 'complete' coverage as you would be with a vinyl wrap for a color change, which is easier to do with the part off the bike.

Thanks, I'm happy with the look, was a little concerned about how the wrap stops on inside edge of the fenders, that it may begin to pull loose, so far all good, I live CA. and never ride in the rain, i think in a wet climate it may not hold up.

And I did by myself (but I know it’s not perfect)
The color is not easy to find, 3M satin gold dust black
