Vmax Gen2 Cruise control

Hi everyone, it’s been a discussion the last three years about a cruise control on the Vmax Gen2 , I was waiting long time to get response from MC-Cruise in Australia but never happened , I parted out my old girl Fjr 1300 and I will donate the cruise control unit to my Gen2 !! So I’m taking the bullet for the team let the madness begin, i will keep posting the progress all the way to final test ride and testing the functions , so fingers crossed to have a successful outcome so other riders can have a blueprint how to install the same or similar unit

Hi Nick,

I managed to install it on my bike and got it work, but the issue is this cruise control unit is design for a Yamaha FJR 1300 fly by cable
and is too bulky ! there is no room on the Gen2 to fit the Vacum servo and the dual cable spool , anyhow i bought last month from McCruise
a cruise control for my Yamaha Super Tenere which is design for fly by wire throttle system which eliminates the vacum servo unit and the
dual cable spool unit , it was easy installation and works perfect on my Tenere . I wish it would be straight fit on my Vmax but they have different
colour cables but im working studding the electrical table charts to see which cables i have to swap in order to install it on the Vmax. Im not in
rush to fit a unit yet on my Vmax due i use my Tenere for long trips plus is not that cheap to buy one they cost around $1000 Australian dollars which
is roughly $650 US dollars , really there is no need to put one on my Vmax but if i do i will do it to help out the Vmax community .

Don't want to be a wise guy but I got a friction type throttle control a few tears back. It was I believe made in South Africa of all places . Kaoko or something... Was around $ 125 and even matches the existing bar ends . Works great and I have it engaged slightly around town to cushion a jerky throttle when hitting bumps.

Thank you for the update! I feel yah. Though it would be cool, it seems like developing a legitimate cruise control solution would just cost a little more than it is probably worth.

My experience with throttle lock on bikes with this much torque is that they really don't slow down much going up hills. If it's a really long uphill on a mountain, maybe, but in rare cases you can just use the throttle. With everyday riding on the interstate, I think that you'll be shocked at how little a hill will affect your speed at a specific throttle setting

I want a proper cruise control for my bike. If you are happy with a throttle lock, great. If some want a proper one, then let them be. Who knows what else can be discovered by Jim and others in their learning venture. If you figure it out Jim, I want one too. Appreciate the efforts.

Oh, don't get me wrong. A cruise control is always better (in many ways). I wasn't suggesting in any way that someone *not* install a cruise control. I just wanted to give my experience with a throttle lock, and how it keeps speed a lot better than people think. It is just a lot easier, and I'm lazy.

If someone offers me a cruise control or a throttle lock, I'll take the cruise control every time. I've ridden bikes with cruise control, and it is better in every way.

Don't know how to do all that fancy cut and paste stuff but punch in Kaoko Throttle Lock and make,model and year of bike.
