So I've had my 98 Vmax almost a year. It has a Stage 7 kit (with K&N filters and puke hose) and Kerker 4 into 1, and constant V-boost for what that's worth. I'm about to get a shift light because it seems like when I redline it I'm doing a lot of shifting in a short time and I don't want to over-rev it. Anyway, my buddy has a new (2012 I think) ZX6. Do I have a chance in a straight line against him?

If he's Ryan Schnitz size and knows how to ride he'll get you. Other than that if you get the jump you should be able to hold him off. Don't go from a roll.....he'll get ya

From a dead stop if you have a Shinko or any sticky tire and know how to launch the bike and your not a big guy then maybe... The new sport bikes are fast and unless he can't ride he'll more than likely get you, as was stated before don't go from a roll or it'll be over pretty quick..

Thanks for the input. I have a Michelin rear tire and we are both decent riders, weighing in around 200 lbs. I don't know when or under what conditions our confrontation might take place, but it's coming. I'll post the results.

You'll take him to about 60-70 mph, then he will rip past you at 100 mph.

SO.... go from a dead dig, and hit the brakes when you pull the bike length on him and call it a day, or he will go on by you after that.

Of course that is if he is a decent rider. Just an average joe on the street can't make the 600's run that fast out of the hole. So you might have a better chance.

Most 600's are going to run high 11's at the track with inexperienced riders. And most inexperienced Vmax riders will run low 12's to high 11's at the track with "built" bikes.

+1, this was pretty much always my experience when running against my buddy's R6. Top end was no contest, he was hitting 160 and shutting down by the time I got up to about 120.

You guys are nuts, that new ZX6 will destroy you.

:biglaugh: Yeah... that's been my suspicion. The other day I was at his house (without my bike) and as I stood by the road he went by me shifting into second at the red line. That thing screams like something straight outta hell.

Cause it screams doesn't mean it's fast, a cbr250 revs to 20k but tops out a 170/180kph

Just have fun with it, don't put yourself under pressure with it. Just go riding with him a few times first and brag his new ride up. They are a nice machine for sure, you will find the right time and place and you take him out of the hole. He will then come back and smoke you, like I said just have fun with it. I have rode with a lot of sport bikes and you will be surprised what Mr Max can do out of the hole if you know how to ride him.

I had my gen I ,my son( who can ride) had a 09 zx6 he couldn't take me in the 1/4 but he would blow by me shortly there after. It's going to come down to ride skill, and you won't know untill you run him. As stated early on in this thread a shinko would be a help.
