I picked mine up Dec. 4. Removed the VMAX on the side covers and the star logos on the scoops to clean is up a little. I took the reflectors off today.

Bike looks great. Not to mention it looks like a beautifull day to ride.:clapping:

gbrown,

Were they easy to remove and how? I want to replace the star with the tuning fork logo.

What gloves do you use when it's so friggin cold? Using my best ski gloves in 26 degrees yesterday left me with two fingertips that still hurt after 24 hours.

i'm still looking for a glove as well that will work around 30? - high 40?....

let me know what you find out?

There were two new brands made with the same new heating element that is supposedly superior to others, but I can't find them available anywhere. They are the Red Savina and PrimoVolta. I had them back-ordered and then was told they were unavailable.

Other battery-powered ones I have looked into have only a palm heating element. I don't want a plug-in 12v.

The ones sold in Canada come with the tuning fork logo. If you can't get them off, you could get the parts from there.

They are real easy to remove especially when its so cold out. I just hit them with a hair dryer on high for about a minute and they pull right off. Use something like zippo lighter fluid or wd 40 to clean up the leftover adhesive. This works for the sticker on the faux tank also. If the star won't just pull off use fishing line to cut the adhesive behind it.

As for the gloves I use they are just ski gloves, nothing special and don't really work that good. I'm still looking for better gloves myself.

Also the guy in the burnout wheelie video took the stars off the scoops, left the VMAX on the side panels, and put 1 tuning fork logo inside the circle on the waterpump cover. Nice touch.

So you know that guy in the video?

I have a pair of Alpinestar Storm Rider gloves that are pretty warm. I must say thatI have only worn these gloves about 5-7 times when the weather was cold or wet. They kept my hands toasty warm during 30 degree weather on a couple of rides over 50 miles. I also had a chance to wear them in a steady drizzle/ light rain while riding on the superslab(about 150 miles) and my hands stayed dry and warm.
One thing about these gloves, probably all cold weather gloves for that matter, is that you lose a bit of the feel/ grip on the handlebars. They feel like they may get better as I wear them more but time will tell. I may go another way by adding grip warmers and getting lighter weight goretex gloves.
You can find them on ebay but they are not cheap, check them out on Alpinestars website.

Thanks for the glove info. I've ordered a pair of British Motorcycle Gear Thermosport gloves after reading through a few reviews. They are about $80. If I spend too much now, I won't let myself buy the $250 rechargeables when they become available again.

I'm confused by these: do you wrap them around the bars and then slide the grips over, or?

My grips are do tight on the bars already that I didn't even bother with grip glue, so I'm really wondering how these warmer sheets would fit in.. :ummm::ummm:

They are affixed to the bars then the grips are slid over them. I know on mine I'm gonig to have to use some sort of lubricant to get the grips to slide on. Not sure how that's going to happen though, my grips are tight too.:confused2:
Does anyone have any tips on how to get tight fitting grips on over grip warmers?

The only lubricant that'll work is glue I reckon! Otherwise they will be sliding all over the place for ever - not good..

In the UK I bought heated grips that looked just like normal grips but had the heated element inside them and a wire running from the end.
The ones I got had a push on-off knob with a red LED, and the knob was a continuous control from low to high heat. I only ever had them at about 1/3 up - after that it felt like my gloves were going to melt.

Needless to say I loved them, and when I go to the UK in February I may just take 'em off my old bike and bring them over for Maxine! I know it's warm here but some nights it still gets pretty chilly and I miss them.

These aren't the exact ones, but they're very similar:

George,

I just barely got mine in December. Did a short ride at 5:pm on the 30th. It was 16 degrees at the time. Left it at the dealer last night and did all the paper work today . I put another 45 miles on it today at about 34 degrees. Wasn't that bad just put my snowmobile duds on and kept a sharp eye out for ice patches. If we get a decent weather day we should ride and meet in Piedmont or Sturgis>

Hey Ken! I rode to BH powersports yesterday and they were putting together their second VMAX. I left my contact info. He lives in Hermosa. Another guy, John from Custer, is picking his up on the 3rd. John is going to Mitchell to pick his up. On one of these nice weekend we'll definitely have to get out for a ride. Congrats on the new VMAX!

On my dirt bikes and dual sports, I've used hair spray for putting on the grips. It is slippery when it is wet, but sets like glue when it is dry.

+1 on the hair spray. Been using that on grips for MANY years. Just have to be quick before it starts to dry. Use the absolute cheapest you can find.

On the heating elements that go under existing grips, I wrap a layer of insulating or electrical tape on the bar on the left side before installing the heating strip. This helps reduce heat loss through the metal handlebar. Don't need on the throttle side as the throttle sleeve does that. Heating the grips before installing helps get them over the heat strips as they stretch easier. I spray the hair spray into the grip instead of on the heating elements or bars. Less of a mess and less likely to over saturate. Obviously do one at a time.

My VMax is definitely getting broke in properly. I have broke in every vehicle I have like the link states. The only vehicles I have issues with are the ones that I don't break in personally. Although this bike has 43 miles on it and I haven't changed the oil yet. I couldn't stop riding and leaving curious black strips on the road today... :rofl_200:

Tomorrow is definitely going to be oil change time.
Luckily I have a stash of KN-303 filters cause my MV takes the same filter. I just need to go get some dino oil.
