Looks like it was running rich at one time which loads things up with carbon but better than burning stuff up and warping metal. I'm no machinist but I might carefully wire brush the combustion area. Valves harder than the head. Have you ever heard of soda blasting. Same principle as sand blasting but with baking soda. Alot safer, noticably s-l-ow-e-r but safe and effective! My concern is still your bottom end ( hold the smart remarks guys) as that is the low spot BUT that is where the protective oil is. I was wondering whether you can't spin the reciprocating parts or you can't spin it. No harm in soaking rings/pistons with PB Blaster or any rust solvent. I'd spray it everytime I went in the garage. You could also heat things up with paint stripper heat gun to expand/contract things. Pics have been great! Keep it up. We're all rooting for you!

Hello PATMAX, Thank you for the support! Yes everything is full of carbon and grease! And I thing is good in this conditions, the grease and the carbon are protecting a lot of things.. Referring to the wire brush, I'm not planing to use wire brush in any place close to the combustion chamber! Soda blasting! that's what i will do... I haven't even tried to move or rotate anything! I know re-bore and hone have to be done but' I have hope! I'm planing to disassembly the whole engine living the two pistons 1 and 2 inside the cylinders. I will see later what to use to take them out!

OK today I disassembled the other cam! Great news No water in this side :eusa_dance:
The rear cylinder looks much better than the front ones! I even can see the Hone grooves. I'm not sure if that is normal... the front cylinders are completely smoothed. I did some cleaning on the cams and they look pretty good.. I will take some pics tomorrow to let you guys judge that.. also I turned the engine a litle bit and its rotate very easily:punk: Tomorrow hopefully I will continue taking )(*^& apart.:biglaugh:

Looks from here you may have gotten lucky!

Disassemble and clean that motor up, and you may get off with only having to buy a rebuild gasket set. (maybe rings for the pistons)

Take your time, and be sure not to mix any of the bearings up.

Good luck

just finished pulling the heads off and the crank and rods out of my 99 with 44,000 hard miles on it this afternoon. it was in good working order except for a busted tranny.

All 4 cylinders still exhibit a definite cross hatch from the original hone job, so I guess not too unusual to see that??

Today I only worked a bit on the working area. I prepare the space to take everything a part. also I ordered a V-Max Engine Assembly Reference DVD that I found on ebay, here is the link just in case someone want to buy them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vmax...Accessories&hash=item3cb42f77cb#ht_500wt_1182

I am looking for this DVD but can't seem to find it on ebay anymore? :confused2: Do you have the seller's name or e-mail address to PM me?

Thanks in advance :punk:

That link doesn't work but I bet it's Damon Feiarulolo's (sp?) DVD, He's a VMOA member and you should be able to contact him through the VMOA some how. I think he's a member here as well??? I've got a copy and it's VERY well done, I wouldn't even attempt this engine assembly myself had I not run across the DVD.

Yep , Damon Ferrariaulo ( sp ? ) had that out on ebay . Should be able to reach him on the VMOA site .

Kakis,

The second set of pics clearly show that you have stuffed rings (pics 1,2,6 and 7 show what is sometimes called "ring wash". This term is also used to describe what happens when an engine runs too rich, and is a confusing term.)

IMHO you need to pressure test the heads to check if the problem is caused by a crack/hole/corrosion in the head.
Also, whatever work you get done, you will need to at least replace the rings and big end bearings, otherwise you could end up with an oil burner!

I would love to know how you go!
