Not really a VMax post, but just bought some of these for my FZR1000 I've had for 24 yrs. What do you speed demons reckon these would set me back new or used? They came off an '87 FZR1000, same year as mine. Anyone wanna tell me what I have?

I am trying to leave-alone my mechanic who is rebuilding my VMax engine, but I am gonna stop there after work tomorrow.

Also, just in the scheme of things, I signed a new contract for work & am getting a huge increase in $ & responsibility. Well, huge $ increase for my field of work! Enough to go out & buy a 2K mi. 2010 if I wanted, & pay cash. I'll settle for getting my '92 back on the road & running well. My advice-stay-away from dynos.:confused2:

They could be 39's or more likely 41's (too big for the stock engine). They can be rebracketed and setup for the Vmax with some custom intakes.
Sean

Sean, I haven't taken delivery of these yet, but they are paid-for & en-route. I will take a look and PM you once I have them in my possession. I already have a set of stock carbs for the FZR1K that I was in the mind to Stage 7, I have the pod K&N's but not the jet kit.

I suppose if I was able to make better use of them then I might go to the trouble of setting them up for a VMax. I already have a DJ Stage 7-kitted set of spare carbs that I was planning to install along w/my choice of a Kerker 4/1 w/a custom can or my UFO Dragstar 4/1, which I have awaiting installation.

My whole reason for doing the dyno runs was to establish a baseline and then install my intake & exhaust, and then to dyno the combos for some real numbers. Unfortunately, fate intervened. I keep telling myself that it would have happened sooner or later (the bottom end #3 connecting rod going-out) and better at the dyno than when I was running in 5th gear w/some Italian exotic playing catch-up behind my taillight.

So, I had the best intentions, but rotten luck. My friend who has helped me w/my VMax & FZR1000 (not the proprietor at Under Pressure in Dania Beach FL) said that "the dyno is rough on bikes and that if you just rode the VMax w/o dynoing it, you probably would still be riding w/no problems today or in the future." I am asking you, I am second-guessing my decision to dyno it. Did the dyno subject my VMax to stresses beyond what a normal bike could handle, or do you think it was just "a matter of time?" :confused2:

My opinion is that if it was that fragile to develop a rod knock after only 3 dyno runs of < 5 minutes duration total, it wasn't long for this world in a 'high-stress' situation. Ridden gently and w/o the stress of dyno runs, yes, it may have run for many miles to come. But who rides a VMax 'gently?' I'm just glad some rich greaser in a Ferrari 430 or 612 or whatever number combination is the model of the minute in disposable-rich income south FL didn't run me over when my bottom end let loose on the road.

Still finishing up my instrument cluster. I just finished with the small lettering for the ***** lights.

I used the rub-on variety, like the hobby model builders use. I ended up having to repaint the plate, but the second time around turned out alright. I think plan "C" (at a later date) I'll just make a new metal plate and take it to the engravers. But, it turned out alright. Word of warning though. If you have catcher's mits for hands like I do, be prepared to spend some time on this section. I found that cutting the letters into strips, and resting them on the wax paper and using a toothpick to move then burnish made things a hella easier.

I just hit the plate with some clear so I should be able to reassemble the unit with it's new voltmeter and install it sometime tonight or tomorrow. Pictures to follow.

KJ, why didn't you just use a tape labelmaker like a Brother P-touch?
Couldn't you make just what you needed?

That might have worked. The rub on letters were like $5 for the pack, I wouldn't really be using the label maker all that much after the project. I have a thing about working with my hands, stuff like this, building guitars, playing my guitars, drawing ..etc. To me its relaxing and with mid terms coming up at the end of the month, I need a little relaxation. lol

I was blessed with RA when I was 12, Sooner or later, I'm not going to be able to use my hands as well as I can now. I've already noticed things I can't do anymore or are difficult to do. The rheumatologist said if I keep moving I can extend the use of my legs, hands, and other joints.

Yes, well if it's relaxing and therapeutic, then I see why. What oral Rx do you use? An NSAID? I used to use naprosyn which worked for me but now I don't take anything unless I am hampered by pain in movement, and I have things to do.

You can get a P-touch for far less than that but the features and the sizes of tapes it uses probably makes the thing cost so-much. I keep saying I am gonna get one but haven't gotten-around to buying one. I have some Amazon $ so maybe I will.

For my therapy, tomorrow I am heading to Daytona w/a friend who is a HVAC contractor-good therapy!

I don't use any NSAID's anymore. I used to Naprosin, then I was switched to VIOXX until 2003. Too many heart issues with it. Now its nothing. Seems like every RA drug on the market has a host of side effects and I'm not too big on heart attacks, cancer and the other goodies that come with them. kind of sucks, cause VIOXX worked well for me.

For pain that an over the counter wont touch, I just go to the doc and he refills my oxycodon or vicodin scrip.

Pretty much finished up my instrument cluster. I just have a little detailing to do on it and then install.

Here it is; The lights are labeled typical. Neutral, Turn, Oil and Fuel.
The LED voltmeter works like a charm. I put an old 9v on it, to light it up.
Where the high beam light used to be, The Tboost toggle switch will go.
It's also labeled; Vboost and underneath it 3k-off-6k. For those wondering about the high beam light. I really don't need one.
It doesn't get dark in the summer and in the fall when it does, with the dual headlight, HID setup, you can tell when your brights are on. :)

Thanks :biglaugh:
It's already being changed. I don't like the way the paint turned out on the gauges. It would have been better with the black going all the way to the gauge face. So I'm stripping off the black paint and restoring the old silver finish. Then I'm just going to paint the very tip of the bezel black to contrast with the face plate.
