I like the color!............Tom.

Thanks,
There is a couple of other black Vmaxes that showed up around town. Ones painted black and the other is an '06. So I have to be different. :biglaugh:

I'm thinking/hoping it will turn out well. I'll have 6 months come october to to the work, so I have plenty of time to do it right.

STILL tinkering with these dam carbs:confused2:;;;

hadda drill out a farkin float bowl screw last eve.

just when i think i can finish em up....another lil bug appears:bang head:

Installed the adjustable levers I ordered from china a week ago. They were only $39.95 and the company seemed pretty good. Fit perfect BUT---- they didn't drill the hole for the break return spirng. It's a #3 drill and only took a few minutes to bring the lever up to spec.

Over all, I'm happy with the product and the transaction on e-bay.

Worked on my daughters' friends 98 Max. Installed new fork seals and wipers (thanks Sean!), cleaned carbs, set float levels and jetted down to 150's. Also had to replace a bent mixture screw...no idea how it got bent! (thanks go to Mikeymustang for the replacement!). Installed a K&N filter and synced the carbs in. Yamaha dealer had the mixture screws at 7&1/2 turns out, so I brought them back down to 2&1/2. Tinkered with the dead tachometer, tested wires and they seem good, so the tach must be bad! Rode my 06 to a grad party, then off to my brothers for his birthday party. Had quite the "Vmax" day!!

Myself and I believe a few others, aren't using the spring.
+1, I didn't use the stock levers spring and it works just fine. I find that I have the adjustment in the middle setting but I could see I might widen the gap between the lever/ grip when I use my thicker cold weather/ rain gloves. The adjustability is a nice optioin to have.

Finally finished up my carb clean. i shure hope this does the trick....everything looks good so im hopefull:clapping:.

pray for me plz:rofl_200:
like my antique radio?? it has TUBES!!!:rofl_200::biglaugh:

ill put em back on the bike tomorrow...its too dam hot right now....ive been wrenching in the early hours cuz of the heat. gotta get me an AC unit in my mancave:rofl_200:

Worked on the 98 again today. Changed out the entire front brake system except for the master ( thanks to [email protected] for the parts!). Took awhile to bleed the system, we had a serious "air lock"!

Took my wife for a ride on the bike yesterday. It was her first time out since I got the bike back together. She wanted me to get on it a little bit.

I let it warm up a few minutes and took it easy till I got out on the 4-lane road. Pulling out into the 4-lane, I hit it in first until the shift light started blinking then speed shifted into second. I never let off the throttle, and did the same in second. I was hammering on the bike pretty hard. As soon as the clutch disengaged from the speed shift to 3rd I heard what sounded like a gun shot followed by a lot of metal clanking around.

My wife had a concerned tone in her voice when she asked me "What is that noise". I just said "drive shaft". Then she asks what does that mean. I proceed to tell her, not good!

We were able to coast to a empty lot across from the gas station that we were trying to get to. I had to call my brother in law to pick us up. Luckily, we were all hanging out together just up the road so it only took him a few minutes.

I tucked my tail between my legs, got a ride home to pick up my truck, then borrow a trailer and pick up the bike and take it back home.

I haven't torn into it yet but I'm 99% sure it is only the driveshaft. Hopefully nothing more.

Must have been a good weekend for breaking stuff. We did a number on the front end of my brother in laws truck on Friday night. It has a pretty big lift on it and some big tires, something like 36" or around there. After a couple beers and bad lighting conditons at 1AM we got the idea that we could drive the truck thru a 4' deep pit in the mother in laws back yard. Bad Idea! The truck ended up sitting there for the night and the next day we had to replace a u-joint and a coupling that attaches to the tie rod on the pitman arm. It took a small excavator and some digging to be able to get the truck out of the hole!

Invest in a manual hammer type impact and #3 Phillips socket bit. Will make it so you don't do that anymore.

yep, it arrived today. But they were messed up enough from my first attempt that I only just got them out

At least I'm slowly building up a proper tool chest
