Relocated my oil pressure gauge to between my clutch and water pump to free up space for mounting my belly pan.

Took a ride to Dahlonega (about 20 mile north of Cumming) Had a nice hot cup of tea and enjoyed the view. Temp was 41 degrees and only my fingers got cold. Thor continues to run great.

I lurk more than I post but as my Vmax has been sitting for a bit due to cold and crappy weather, I thought it'd be nice to make it some nice solid motor mounts. I still have to make the other four but it's taking me about 45 mins each to make on my small lathe.

After I get the mounts installed I plan on making my own frame braces.

Anyone thought about using a high durometer delrin or urethane bushings? I have used those in industrial generators and other equipment, oil won't break them down.
I keep thinking of way down the road of stress cracks on the case mounts.

There have been Delrin mounts made in the past. I was comparing the prices for both the Delrin and the 6061 and they were close but I found my piece of aluminum at a slightly cheaper cost.

I think some of the Ventures had solid aluminum mounts from the factory.

I primarily went with making my own aluminum mounts as the material was less and I have machined 6061 before.

I was wondering the same thing.. Or frame cracks.

I'm sure Yamaha took allot of time, to come up with the rubber dampeners for a reason. Would this hard mount cause problems down the road?

I would think something needs to give a little, with that vibration the engine produces.

Good luck with the project.

The solid mounts (I stock both aluminum and delrin most of the time) will cause no issues with a broken or cracked mount. In fact we have actually fixed a broken mount (from a crashed bike) by installing and welding the aluminum mount in place (can't find the repaired picture).

The only time I have seen the mounts broken was due to crash damage and even then it totaled the hell out of the bike (and likely the rider).

Yamaha used the solid mounts as OEM in the Royal Star ventures which were big heavy bikes with a lot of torque. If anything was going to break it that would do it. They get past the vibration problems this gives us Vmax guys by installing the handlebars in rubber mounts in the triple.

Don't have the 85 here yet but I did bring the carbs home with me the other day (the reason he quit riding it) He said the carbs were not right even after he put all new diaphrams in. Some one had rebuilt them & all the diaphrams were new but all the float levels were wrong & it had 150's in the PAJ 2 & had stage 7 springs in it . The mains look big to but I could not find a number on them so I just changed them to. I need to buy the t hose & the other strait hose 7 get a couple E clips for the choke & they should be good to go now. Bike is all stock except for a K & N and he punched the baffle

Well i haven't done it yet but-----

P urchased the LEDs as suggested on this forum for the speedo and inst. cluster. Got the bright ones in green to match the few green trim items ( piping on seat and flames on air box cover). I might get another color just for the heck of it as they are much $$.

Well I've done it. GREEN leds in the speedo and inst cluster Looks great--- thanks to Youconnerdave for the how to.
BUT, I broke both mount bolts for the speedo!!!!!!!! I swear to God, They ( the bolts) are made of cheeze.
Drilled and tapped for 14-20 grade 5 bolts. All better and looks great!!

Sorry no pix---Just to hard for this old man.

Installed a rectangular rocker switch in the neck plastic housing on the left side above the fork lock, facing up, wired parallel to the fan sending unit. Put bike back together and covered it up, might buy a new windshield in a week or two, still too much ice and snow outside thought the temps are over 40f.

New rotors came in, waiting for my handle grips to come in.
