Also gentsvmax how did you do the led upgrade on the headlight? I have one in mine but its kinda rigged together but looks and works fine. I've looked on here for people doing that upgrade and haven't found anything on it can you point me in the right direction please.

I'm more interested in the tail treatment. I recall it being fabbed from some plastic sheet stock or something?

If you have a thread here detailing the bike's construction, I'd love to refer to it.

Hey Josh, thanks' for your interest, sure I'm glad to share info! Sourced from ebay is the Daymaker L.E.D. bucket for
H.D's 5-3/4".
I went to my purchase history for a link on the source and he's no longer registered, still should be an easy find .
I opened up the back to accommodate the Vmax wiring, plugs etc. covered the edge with split rubber line, sent the
set-up shown to powder coat.
The pic of the plug is the sky blue wire for the L.E.D. ,H.D. emblem inside the bezel of authentic H.D. daymaker's.
Like everything else H.D. they of course put their emblem on it, its that tiny amber light, really bright.
I have it wired to illuminate with a switched D.R.L. circuit made possible for my 2 wire running light's by a simple
two diode, one resistor circuit to dim the L.E.D. running lights in the front blinker's. The headlight is also switched, the stock Hi/Lo beam switch still used.

Thanks. Im trying to figure out how your holding the headlight in place? My setup is similar to yours actually same light but my issue was holding the light in the bracket as the light is much smaller then the housing. I got mine to fit with some rigging and shade tree engineering i was wondering how you did yours? Do they make a kit now to hold it in place? Thanks for the info

Hey yo! What am I? Chopped liver? ;)

Didn't you say that you custom self-fabbed the tail with a chunk of plastic? I actually like that look better than the Exactrep offering. Just not sure if I'm skilled enough to pull it off.

Hey gentsvmax... I just went through your gallery. Some great work, detail and notes on that bike. It has been through quite the evolution. I know the term "mod monkey" has been thrown about here on this site for many years.

You, my friend, are the POSTER CHILD for that term.

Good stuff.

Yea Josh, that is the stock Vmax headlight mount the H.D. bucket is bolted to, the H.D. Daymaker fits in the ring
perfectly. A solid set-up.20190514_203558.jpg20190514_220442.jpg20190518_012823.jpg

Your Prime rib bro, Prime rib! Had to get to the pics. Now I wanted to go the Exactrep route but I saw a fender-taillight combo at the Ghost Rider Customs site called the Primo, had to have it. They only make that light for their fender's, I begged and showed pics of my bike and how that light would make the "final touch" on and on. They agreed to a one time exception since mine is a wide wheel fender.
So with that said I still wanted the Exactrep single seat pillion look with my fender. So started the search for the
Rubbermaid Trash can donor for the plastic, much easier for me than a fiberglass mold, I do have a fiberglass attempt that looks pretty cool that I'll have to post a pic of. But yea I like the durability and ease of the plastic and now use a commercial can from Grainger for malls.
The real work is in that chin scoop (Exactrep) that as much as I love Cheryl there , fit terrible, not even close!
I use an epoxy called PC7 and aluminum to reconstruct broken automotive scoops and dams so we did the same
on that chin scoop and the upper mounting area on that wide rear $500 fender. Here are the pics., of the single seat pillion and how that idea started with Windows Paint then the chinscoop ordeal.

I hope you get the idea, maybe some inspiration to create and build your own and save a few bucks for the mod monkey to suck-up on something else LOL for the max. If I can do a build album I will, for my own satisfaction as well as to share, cuz it's been a fun ride with this 1985 Yamaha Vmax.

So next question lol. What size tire is that a 240? And how the hell did you get it on there? Lol it looks awesome. I've heard they don't handle well in corners but the look is amazing.

Im sure that takes some big modifications to get it on there doesn't it? Chain drive? If you get some free time gentsvmax and feel like explaining I'd be interested in reading it I'd love to get a 240 on mine. Thanks

Widen the swingarm space & a 5-1/2" or 6" wheel. Six inch is probably better for that size tire.18" tire will drop the rpms over a 17" tire. More rubber choices in 17".

Ok buddy i see what your saying now thats awesome thanks for the info.
Jeez you got a clean bike! Flatsides? and isn't that a wide custom cut wheel out back? Mine is a MadMax Racing set-up, started out 3" over and is now 5-7/16"due to needed u-joint upgrade modification. No it aint a canyon carver but there is tread wear on the very edge of that 300. Once you've ridden it a while it just seems normal, the longer wheel base with the addition of frame brace's, solid mounts, extended pivot bolts with wider bearings and the USD front-end
make's for a good solid ride feel in cornering and straight line cruising. 75mph is 4500 rpm and easy riding.
Here are the swing-arm swap pics, I do all work on the bike and have always done it single handedly with the right tools and lifts etc. and can have that wheel and swingarm off and away from the bike or back in 30 minutes.

Thats awesome you do all that work yourself buddy if not you'd have alot more in that thing then you already do. Its a sweet looking bike.
