You folks make me grateful to live in california, it's always ridin' weather!

Damn...... I'm going to think back to this comment this winter when I'm snow blowing my driveway and think really nasty thoughts...

Put the swing arm on, mounted the new Carr rear rim and Avon 180/55-18. Boy does it look pretty.:eusa_dance::eusa_dance::eusa_dance:

Put the new Carr front rim on, with the Avon 130/70-18. I must say the 130 fits nicely up there. Doesnt look like I will need any spacing on the fender as well. Only .5" shorter than stock.

Got the new Galfers rotors on with new EBC-HH pads as well.

She is starting to look like a bike again.
Those rims looked great in the box and I can`t wait to see them on your bike.
I`m getting jealous man LOL:rofl_200:I`m glad that it`s comming along good
I just wanna be there when you push that starter button, that will definatly deserve a cold one.:icon_jook:
Just keep on pluggin` away at it and call or p.m. me if you need anything from me.
<<Dave>>:punk:

FINALLY got my galfer wavy rear, all pads, brake/clutch fluid and motorcyclemods tallight installed and good to go...

i did that too! 20 mins on the charger at 10 amps tho fixed that issue. then left it on the trickle charger all night. that was my ****** for yesterday. i didn't mind it compared to the other issues i was having.

Looked at mine with the cover on it this morning while jumping in the G8... The paint is done but is sitting in an office at the painters curing. I hope to have it back for next weekend. My fiance is leaving town and I would like to take my FIRST ride on the bike. Middle of July and it's my first ride. I haven't even ridden it with the new Marks system on it yet!!!

Damn!

Chris

I've been quite busy, these last few weeks...

Last year the engine in my '88 spun a bearing. I got hold of a '96 that was in pretty bad shape but the motor was ok, I got that as a donor bike as I figured I could use a few other bits from it as well and then sell off what's left of it.

The engine paint was peeling pretty badly so that was my first task once I got both motors out. I polished the stripes on the valve covers and the three lines on the cilinders and shot all the rest black.
While the motor was out of the frame, I set about cleaning/polishing/repainting a lot of other bits & pieces, which was due on the 20-year old bike. Took the carbs apart and cleaned them good too.

Once I got the motor back in the frame I had to figure out how to get it running, being it was a newer generation motor. I decided to use the TCI from the '96 donor bike and leave the single pick-up coil in the motor. So I would have to modify the wiring of my '88 to run with the '96 ignition system. This turned out to be not so hard to do: I disconnected all the wires from the plugs that go in the TCI and re-installed them in the correct order, as per the wiring diagram. I also changed the plug that goes to the pickup. When I tried to fire it up though, the motor would get a single spark then nothing... I ended up changing a relay and it fired up right away after that! Yeehaw! I still haven't figured out if the relay was bad or if the '96 uses a different one. If anyone is interested in the details on converting the wiring, let me know.

Synched the carbs and went for a spin. Apart from a little water leakage, it ran ok. I did notice a sputter around 4-5K rpm. The carbs from the donor bike had adjustable needles so yesterday I changed them over and lifted the needles one clip position, it runs a lot better now.

Next up is the front-end swap. I got a set of R1 calipers to fit the '96 forks, but I've noticed one of the discs is warped like a dinner plate... bummer. So I still need to find a replacement disc, a suitable master and then have the fork lowers and tripples powdercoated. I think a set of aftermarket fork springs will have to go in to avoid diving when using the improved brakes.

All this is put on hold for now, as I'm enjoying myself too much riding the bike!

I have to order a new brake lever and front right signal light lens for my wife's bike.... She was practicing her figure 8's and took a dive. Glad she did it at such a low speed. :)

With any luck, I'll get out on the max tomorrow. :D

Got my Haynes manual in the mail today and finally did all the standard fluid checks that I really should have done before riding the bike for the first time

great to hear, nice book eh?!

Its very good - I recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a ton of mechanical experience. It breaks things down very well and includes good pics.
