Finished the fork oil & dust seals and progressive spring install. Extremely pleased with the way she handles now.

Also made an extra damper rod removal tool which I would be happy to loan to anyone needing it for fork work. Doesn't look so hot, but it works pretty good.

The fit on my '99 was fine but I don't know if Yamaha ever changed the damper rod size, so don't know what other years it will fit. You'll have to check that out.

Send me a PM or e mail to [email protected] for details. Looks like shipping would be, worst case-$15, maybe less if you're on the east coast.

Dan-o, thanks for the loaner tool! This would work on model years '93 through '04 I believe. I can't remember when Yamaha changed the late model damper rod...'04 or '05.

Glad to do it Mark.
BTW, in the "How to disassemble the front forks" tutorial he says the bottom allen bolt was 5/16" or 8mm. My '99 was 3/8" or 10mm, so that bolt should be sized before cutting down a perfectly good allen wrench. :bang head:

Huh, I wonder if it's different between early and late model forks?

Pulled off my broke swingarm.
Sat on it and made Vrrrrrrm Vrrrrrm Sounds with my lips as spit went all over the faux but I had fun!
I even went WOT for the first time to show I have some big balls,, but wait does it still count if the engine isnt running:ummm:

Only if there were no witnesses!! And you weren't mistakenly sitting on a scooter:rofl_200:

i just did my forks on my 06' and the allen bolts were 8mm / 5/16" and the damper rods are round on top no points to lock a tool in.

Do you have a relay setup for the headlight?

quote=Buster]Wow, that headlight is huge! What is it off of? It must throw off some pretty good light

maleko,
no relay

Buster,
it realy isnt much bigger than stock, it is the same width, maybe two inches taller, and does stick out further, but I could probably get it to sit back another inch, just have a few cables in the way due to rerouting for the drag bars.It does light up the road, way more than stock

And if you think the vrod light looks huge check out the 8" honda hornet light it came with, that light had to go

Well I called Mark's Performace Muffler in Ca. and I got a voice mail. Left a message that I wanted an exhaust system (black ceramic). Have not received a call back. I hope he calls today. I have been itching for a while to get this and I am now ready. Does anyone know if he is still doing business?? :ummm: I want people to hear me NOT just see me go by.:BoomSmilie_anim:

Wow, I'm surprised they went back down a size...weird! Has anybody else done a '99? If so, were the allen bolts 10mm/3/8"? Have I finally lost my marbles completely? :ummm:

Chris-How did you handle the removal, Get lucky with the impact? How about reassembly? :ummm:

Lots o questions, that's for sure. :confused2:

I don't ever use a holding tool other then my own hands (which likes to hold my tool - LOL). I do however have a good 1/2" impact that works wonders as well as a section of PVC pipe to drive in the new seals.

Sean

By the time I realized I didn't have a piece of PVC pipe the bike was all apart so I couldn't cruise down to the h'dwr. store to get one. :bang head:

(I refuse to drive my p/u before the snow comes!!) :a014:

Sooo.........here's what I came up with. Good layer of fork oil on all mating surfaces, use the old seal as a cushion, new seal tapped right in. :biglaugh:

yea just like sean said a good impact gun does wonders and the bolts pretty much screw back in by hand then torque them. i had mine apart and was tring pvc to drive the seals but 2" was to big and 1 1/2" was to small so i took a 1 1/2" pressure coupling which is just to big to fit in the top on the lower leg and split it in half on the miter saw. that blades width of material off makes it fit perfect on the seal. you set the split coupling on the seal with one hand holding them together and i used a 2 ft piece of 2"pvc as a driver. just using your hand driving the pipe works great you dont even need a hammer works like a charm. the 2" pvc fits right over the dust seal perfect by itself and tap down with the palm of your hand it dont take much. you just have to be creative and you will find dozens of ways to help.

Well my bike is going to have a little bit of down time. I hurt the middle drive. oh well thats what warranty is for. Thank god I know the owners of the dealership and that they know what the hell a Vmax is.

It goes down tomorrow morning. In the mean time I'm going to change the graphics on the tank. to something that more suits the bike.

here is what I came up with so far.

Too bad, KJ. Sorry to hear. How much more riding time do you have up there this season?

Till the end of sept. maybe a week into october. They should get it fixed pretty quick. The drag races are coming up on the 6th and 7th. I plan on running on the 7th.
