Re: What do you do for a living?

I too am a new retiree, having worked 32 yrs as a chemist & project / product commercilization leader at a major chemical company headquarters in Midland, Michigan. ( no... not that one, the other one ! ) Prior to my chemistry career, worked as a Yamaha motorcycle & snowmobile mechanic at a Fenton, Mi. dealership. ( prior to the V-Max's debut )

Re: What do you do for a living?

I thought it might be interesting to compare the various jobs VMax owners perform for a living. "I would guess many would be mechanics of some sort".

I'm an Allison Transmission Technician/ Foreman for an Allison distributor. We service and rebuild all Allison transmission's from legacy product to the new Allison Hybrid Electric Drives.

What do you do for a living? :ummm:

Bill
Where do you work. I used to repair system 1 parts cleaners & went out to a place that done Allison Tranmissions all the time.

Looks like the answers are going to differ way more than I imagined. "I wonder why this question hasn't been asked before", The answers are very interesting to me.

Re: What do you do for a living?

I get this feeling that most of us are tradesmen/women. of the dozen maxxers i met last summer they were all tradesmen of some sort.

Myself i am a Journeyman Plumber/Pipefitter. i specifically build new large commercial, or light industrial buildings. ive done everything from drainage to acid pipe to ultra high pressure gasses (1500 psi and up), ammonia, steam and water service, but mostly hot water heating (either steam or water). ive never unplugged a toilet. we call roto-rooter for that shit... at the moment im building a new steam station for the university or regina. mostly doing the cutting, fit up for the welder, and bolt up of flanges and valves. i am a proud Local 179 union man.

i enjoy my job and the quality of life it provides me is why i do it. going to work everyday is like a fun day at the park, my coworkers and apprentices are a blast to work with. Work is slowing down slightly but for now its still busy enough to not worry about layoffs. and that is what i do when im not riding the max...

first pic is a 6 inch diverter valve in a boiler room at a new rink
second pic is a boiler room retrofit in an old school
third pic is my welder and i fabbing up spools for the recent job
4th pic is my first steam station three years ago
5th and 6th pic, the three rows of piping is 1/3 of the station im doing now
enjoy...

peace,
evan...

There is another "what do you do" thread somewhere. It was started a couple years ago. I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: If I would have only read a couple more posts!

Re: What do you do for a living?

:ummm::ummm::ummm::ummm::ummm: Work??? Haven't officially done that in a long time. My last real job was as an Assistant Staff Engineer at Smiths Aerospace and Defense Systems. Design, Development, Testing and Repair of Military and Commercial Flight Avionics. That ended because of 2 serious auto accidents many years ago. Not my fault. 16 YO and then an 83 YO, Lost in Space... In 2009, a 17 YO got us both. He zoned out and didn't wake up until he hit us, so he said. Luckily, all accidents were in cages. 3 totaled vehicles.. We buy Bigger each time..

For the past few years I've worked with 9 or 10 Firearms Manufacturers. Testing and Evaluating their Assault Weapons Systems, mainly AR-15 and M16 Style Firearms in various calibers. They provide me with the equipment, I buy the ammo and shoot. Then I write articles about my good and bad experiences. They fix the problems and send me more, better equipment.. It's a lot of fun but there's not much of a profit in it...:sad2:Just Free Toys.:biglaugh:
