Yet another R/R question

I am convinced that a need a new R/R on my stock '85, I am only charging at 13V. Two questions: 1) Has anyone tried the Shindengen #SH569A-12 R/R from RegulatorRectifier.com? It is $70.00. I prefer a replacement the doesn't require altering the stock mounting. 2) What is the best way to replace the part? It looks like it would be rather difficult from behind. Is the easiest way to remove the rear footpeg bracket? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Since you are getting 13v I would say your R/R is working but the issue is with the
connections in your charging system. Clean all the connection points and solder the "crimp" and you can easily pick up 1 1/2 more volts.

or just wire it straight to the battery

clean-clean-clean... and do away with as many "plug-in" connections as you can find and solder them ! It worked for me on both of my Vmax's...
