Has anyone used both Progressive suspension 412 and then 440's?

I am looking for a comparison from someone who has used both and actually compare the two with their own experience.

I am wondering if the 440's are worth the extra dollars.

The 412's are pretty basic level shocks and work ok. The 440's do give a lot more adjustments. We also sell a 430 set that has nicer looks but still not as adjustable as the 440's are.

I put 440's on mine not long ago. They look cool. Let me just say that I don't notice an amazing difference from stock shocks to 440's.

I'd spend my money on the front end before the rear for sure. I'd wait for the right deal to come along on ebay or here for shocks. They are most definitely NOT worth the $400 price tag IMO. I scored mine, brand new, for $126.95 (US) to my door.

When just scooting around there isnt much of a difference. I have had both.
When you are on a road that is washboards then that is where the 440s shine. We have a couple of old bumpy concrete highways I use a lot that is why I went to the 440s and it made a big difference.
Also when riding 2 up the 440s are superior.
Cheers

i found all of the 440's series for $127 plus shipping, are they worth it?

chrome is $155

whats stock length, 13?

That is a good price - similar to what I paid for mine (brand new on fleaBay). I would go for it.

ouch..
whats stock length, 13?
Yes, 13" is the stock height.

Sean,

what do you mean by 'more adjustable' on the 440s? Are you sure you don't mean the 418s? On my 440s the only adjustment available is spring preload. :confused2:

My bad, I did mean the 418's!! We like the 430's more then the 440's for better looks but the 440's do have the better dampening system.

Here's our prices (but no where near the price you found).
412's - $225 chrome
418's - $375 aluminum body
430's - $375 for black coated, $400 for regular chrome.
440's - $475 for black coated, $500 for regular chrome.

The 440's are not being discontinued but maybe are overstocked with them?? I'd say to jump on it quick!!!!

The part number looks off. When I was looking I was looking for part number 4404212 (B/C), and these are different, 4404238B

That's because they only have the 11inch in the 440 series.

Dang booger. I guess i will have to keep looking. people seem to getting these for 200 and under.

I juts got off the phone with them - and they only have the 11 inch. I have the Hindle 4-1 and there is no way i can drop 2 inches with this exhaust.

Sucks. The search continues!

ok so i spent th ebetter half of today doing research on this. the part numbers are different, HOWEVER they are very very close to what the models are for our vmax (12.5 and 13). well within a % or two.

I spoke with progressive as well and they said they can't guarantee 100% satisfaction with those model numbers but they will work fine. Depending on the mounting kit you may have to get the metric mounting kit for $20 from them.

right now if you buy any 440 series at ANY price as long as its not from ebay you get FREE fork springs!!!

So back to topic. the 11 or 12" series on dennis kirk vs what fits for oem as far as specs are pretty far off. the 12.5 and 13 are pretty damn close.

here are all the listings (12.5 and 13). 127 for regular, 155 for chrome:

https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588318&leafCatId=&mmyId=
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588321&leafCatId=&mmyId=
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588337&leafCatId=&mmyId=
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588338&leafCatId=&mmyId=
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588339&leafCatId=&mmyId=
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588340&leafCatId=&mmyId=

i picked up these:
https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/prod...e=&catId=&productId=p588318&leafCatId=&mmyId=

so i figure for that price i might just get the free springs and put the shocks up on ebay for what i paid, if i don't want them.

anyways also feel free to check my numbers. Here is the vmax suggested (at least 2k3) setup:

and the pdf with ALL the specs for comparison:

Just remember that if you fit anything but 13" shocks, you won't be able to put your bike on the center stand anymore unless you ride the rear wheel onto a plank.

I speak from experience, my bike came with older 12.5" shocks and it drove me craaaazy!

fair enough. the 13s were sold out in black by the time i went back. but hey for free springs its kinda worth it.

Sweet research Garrett, I had already pulled the trigger on the last 13" 440-4238B shocks that Dennis Kirk had. I don't use the CS for anything other than winter storage or servicing. They are the HD, which progressive recommends for riders over 200lbs, and I am definatly over the 200lbs mark.
Thanks to Garrett I'll also be getting some free springs! :punk:

whend u pick them up? i tried to grab the 12.5s and 13s. gonna work out a deal or something.

i 'bought' them but then they were unavailable. got a call from DK about 2 mins later saying that someone had bought the last pair @ 10am

It wasn't 10 am eastern, that's for sure! It could have been 10am pacific time though...I bought them sometime after Noon today. I bought them just after your first post, but I was kinda groggy due to sinus meds and didn't check the part numbers. Later, I did some research, emailed Progressive(never heard back from them) and decided that they should work just fine. If not I should be able to sell them for more than I paid for them.
I needed to replace my stock 17 year old shocks badly so these should be even better when I extend my swingarm.

yea the 13"s are very very close to what ours our. u see the spreadsheet i put up?
