I'd like to know that, too. But the highest VIN# so far on Bacchus' list is #5065 owned by Bryjul. So I'm guessing production is well below 6,000.

That'd be 6000 ish 85s then, but I was wondering about grand total Gen1s produced?

I'm the original owner of # 874. 1st one in town at the dealer at the time. Only mods are crash bars, a corbin seat, newer style r/r, HID headlight, sissy bar for the wife (almost lost her one time) and a windshield. also will be changing the stator to the higher output one soon. 45,000+ miles.

I looked at the link and it says in the Forward at the bottom of the 3rd page that it is dated July, 1995, which is probably for the 1996 model year.

That makes sense because those VIN # in the 1995 model year are quite different than those in my '85.

I think each year started with 101 in the last 3 digits.

My '85 full VIN is JYA1FK005FA000167. The 1995 link that is cited above has as the beginning VIN JYA2WEE0 TA050101 (USA).

VIN #s can be tricky to read. To be sure we'd need a decoding formula from Yamaha but reading through the first several pages I don't see them volunteering that info.

I noticed you listed FREERIDER at 0339
This should read FIRERIDER, or I would believe we have a conflict in #'s
My Red 85 is in stock (very nice) condition except for the R1 brake kit, upgraded R/R, Rick's Stator and SportMax seat. It has approx. 50,000 mi and still runs reeeeal good. Love this site. Will post some pics as soon as I get the how to's figured out.

Thank you, Sir. Some how feels good to be part of the stats. My 1st year (92) CBR900RR Fireblade (that Mr. Max replaced) was # 016 and mint with 6000 miles on it when I purchased it. Had 35,000 when I sold it. It still amazes me how many early low mi. bikes there are out there. Can't possibly be because they didn't enjoy riding them. At this point though I am tryng to keep the miles under control and use my 86 750 Maxim X for booting around. Yet another example as I bought it 3 years ago with 8000 mi on it and it's a great little performer as well. Will keep up the search for more and enjoy them while I can
