I was wondering how come those kits go so high in term of price. I guess the R&D time spent and the little amount of sale makes it that way. But the fact it ends up more expensive than the bike makes it kind of difficult to justify.

Good point! I guess it comes down to how long you intend to own the bike. If its something you fab up yourself with little $$ invested, then its no big deal to loose it when selling the bike. But if its a purchased kit, I guess you have to hang onto it for life and enjoy the hell out of it, or take a hammering when its time to sell. As stated previously in this thread, its all up to a persons tastes and what they want from their bike!

I don't give a **** i never ride in the rain... :biglaugh:

fair enough

ryan and ed, thanks for keeping it civil. could have easily gone into some deep end but you guys kept it on track. thank you. further proves this is an awesome forum and ryan you are welcome anytime my friend!

No worries bro. Maybe I bitched too much about my bike's maladies now that I'm free of them, and nobody here wants to listen to that.

The v65 was also known for the high speed death wobble from what I heard on v4hondabbs. My v30 was fine, though it did max out at like 105, which was into the redline of fifth...if you shifted to sixth it couldn't pull the overdrive gear and you'd actually start slowing down. Great little bike.

My '84 V65 spit me off at 140, on the concrete of the Beltway 8 Jesse Jones Toll Bridge in Houston, I was famous on the news that evening:punk:

13 separate impacts on my helmet, and I lived to tell the tale, although extremely humbled by the experience, having learned some bikes are made for top end and some are not....I won't take the vmax over 130, ever.....:biglaugh:

If we mod our bikes with the thought that the money is recoverable, even a little bit of it, we're nuts....Its a hobby, not an investment.......:biglaugh:

That's not what I tell my wife tho'

Well I read every response. Thanks for the ideas. I dont even have a Vmax- yet. Used to have a 2000. I was within 1 minute of buying a '92 for $3,200 on Ebay, until some clown outbid me. 7 hours later I got a 2nd chance offer from the seller. Seemed suspicious and I was pissed anyway, having lined up the cash and driver, as the bike was 3 hours away. I offered the dude $2,500. I will keep looking, one near me on craigslist is an '03 with only 3,800 miles. I almost did that many miles in a week once!

My V65 had a much sadder ending, I was know for riding wheelies around where I lived even standing on the seat wheelies. That bike almost had a dirt bike feel when it came to doing it. You just had to watch bringing it back down. But One night on my way home I stopped at the local convenience store where a group of guys were hanging around and they said do a wheelie for us as I left so as I pulled out I lined it up and brought it up and rode it a couple hundred yards then brought it back down so I could make the left to go home. After I turned I jumped on it HARD, wound out first hit second, wound out second, then just after hitting third I came over the crest of a hill and just then, WHAM!! There was a kid on a bicycle RIGHT in my path and I hit him full force! I never even saw him to even let off let alone hit the brakes. The handle bars slammed both ways violently and I knew I was going down hard it just had way too much wobble to try to right it so I kinda tucked my arms in and hit the ground by my Gchoice so I could get away from the bike landing on me. I remember as I was sliding on my back at about 85 mph seeing my bike hit hard then slide away shooting about a 50 ft high rooster tail of sparks as it slid away past me. And for some stupid reason I was thinking, Damn I just got it painted. I finally stopped after some serious road rash on my forearm and leg cause my leather sleeve slid up my arm. I jumped up but went right back down cause my ankle was shattered. I called out to the kid ( he was 16 I found out later) but no response. I hopped back to him and saw his one foot facing completely backwards and a fast growing puddle of blood coming from the back of his head. I was sure he was dead. But he started moaning and I told him to hang on and as a car came by I stopped it and had them call 911. Life flight landed nearby and took him away. Thank God he lived. But he took about 120 stitches in his head and almost lost his foot and had 4 broken ribs. The cops came and after they saw how far my bike was away ask, Holy ****, how fast we're you going? I told them I was flying but since there was a 10:00 curfew for bicycles I thought it was safe to open it up. Well man was I wrong. Now he was wearing all black on a black bike with no reflectors so I never saw him. It wound up he agreed not to sue me for hitting him if I agreed to not sue him for being out past curfew. I later found out through people who knew him that he heard me coming but said to himself **** him he can go around me. He was dead center in my lane. He recovered as did I from that incident but I heard a few years later he died in a army training accident. That wreck still haunts me and definetly made me change my balls out wreckless bike riding style. My bike slid 480 ft from the impact and they estimated I hit him at about 88 mph.

Holy cow Ed!.............What a story, Glad ya both lived to tell about it!.....................Tom.

I hit him at about 88 mph.

if the flux capacitor had been on you could have traveled to a minute in the future when the bicycle wasn't there, and passed safely into open space.

seriously though that's a hell of a story. going down from a direct impact pushing 90....and living to tell about it is quite a feat.

Rusty....I think the "130mph speed limit" for the Max is probably a good idea. I'd nudged 145 a couple times and that is just too damn fast for this bike. Ever drive a pickup or big suv past 100...it starts to get that "floaty" feeling? that's what the vmax feels like much past 130 or so. You just know the slightest bump or heave and you're done.
