Air filter issues

OK, so I need some help. I have a 2006 model Vmax. I took the air filter off and ordered a new one when the air filter showed up. I put it into the air box but it’s too tall. I have encountered this issue four times now they’re all too tall. I don’t have the original air filter I took out Because of my trusting nature. I took the guy at the motorcycle shop at his Word and threw the old one in the trash and it is long gone, so I can’t get a number off of that one and no one, including KNN air filters can seem to tell me which air filter I need any help would be greatly Appreciated.
