Hi,
I've been doing a lot of reading on the VMAX and I will most likely be picking up a 1st gen in the next few months. I figured this would be the best place to ask questions and gain knowledge in my quest for the perfect used bike. I'm currently riding a 550 maxim and figured why not go for something with triple the power and torque... so here I am. I've used gun forums (M14) before and they saved me countless dollars and headaches when I purchased my rifle and I'm hoping you guys will do the same.

Thanks,
Connor

Re: Good to be here

My V-max experience started back in 1986 while in the Navy. I had been riding since I could touch the ground on a bike (CB125s Honda) but had failed to ever own a powerful bike. I owned a Kawai 440LTD and that was as big as I had ridden. Just had to buy a 1985 V-max. I had it for all of 6 months, got orders to deploy and sold it rather than store it. BUT I WAS GLAD TO SELL IT! I had no car in that era of my life and rode everywhere in San Diego all year round. First observation I had on the Max was that I was unsure of who was in charge. Going from the handy 440 to the max was , well, it took me a while after selling it to get my navel to unpucker!! I would tremble a bit getting on the thing, but was shaking hard when I crawled back off. Not a good idea to jump that much in HP all at once. LOL
Since those days I have owned and ridden many big bikes. The last decade had me touring the USA on a 1999 ZX11 that was set up to put out 152 hp on the local Dyno. Needless to say I crawled on this latest purchase (2001 V-max) with no issues and wondered why it just doesn't seem as fast as the first.
Thanks for making me a part of your forum.

Welcome from another new member. I've had a few big bikes. '86 V-65, '88 FZR 1000, '90 ZX-11, '93 Vmax, '99 H-D FXDX Super Glide Sport. The ZX-11 I had was a gorgeous and fast bike. But this Gen II Vmax I just picked up, it is very sweet........ makes my '93 max seem tame. I haven't ridden her enough yet to draw a comparison to the ZX-11 I used to have. It only has 20 miles on the odometer. I would imagine, once I install a few things and get the ECU flashed, it will be a monster.................. Dave

Welcome from another newbie and experienced firearms member. I am a member of a great firearms forum down here in NC. Glad to see a NY member mentioning his interest in firearms whilst suffering through the politics and anti-2A issues going on up there.

I hear ya. I just don't condone running if I'm targeted. Where I come from, you lose your vehicle, and your license, by doing that. Helicopters and airplanes are a lot faster than any bike or car on the road. :ummm:

Welcome! And just because were from NY doesn't meen were not gun slingers. We have a selfish POS of a govenor and NYC out votes the rest of the rest of the state. Every county north of NYC already called for a repeal of the "safe act" but emperor cuomo won't do nothing about it

Being a new member, I certainly don't want to break any rules here. If this breaks a rule, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm thick skinned. But for those of you who are interested in firearms, visit www.carolinashootersclub.com. This is a great firearms forum with a bunch of great folks. You don't have to be a "Carolinian" to join. If you're interested in joining, then register and visit the "Welcome New Members" section of the site and let everyone know that "Qball50" recommended you.

The carolinashootersclub is made up of current and retired military service men and women, law enforcement, first responders, and a whole host of people from all walks of life. A great group of people that believe in our constitution and are at the forefront in the battle that we all face waged against our freedoms.

As far as this site goes, that I am a humble new member of, it is very much like the carolinashootersclub site. From what I've ascertained since joining here, I can definitely see the similarities.............. And....... I love my Max.......... Dave

Pretty sure you didn't break any rules. If you did, someone will let you know. Seems like you'll be fine here because you love your max...

Hello Guys. Been an active member over on Xjbikes.com for awhile now. (One of the guys recommended I join over here) I started with a 1985 Yamaha Maxim X and just got my first Vmax a few days ago. I plan on keeping the Maxim x but we shall see. I'm sure I'll have questions and hope eventually I can answer some in return. I know the bike has A full Kerker Exhaust and a Stage 7 jet kit. Dang these things are awesome!

Welcome to the forum Ryan.

Thought I'd say hey too. Bought a 2000 vmax with custom exhaust and what I think is a stage 7 jet kit (has the separate K&N air filters, no vboost). Bought it a few weeks ago and absolutely loving it. Prior, I rode a 2003 Kawasaki KLR650, so bit of a difference performance-wise! Previous owner didn't know much of anything (this was a "mid-life crisis" bike; rode dirt bikes a bit as a kid, and thought he wanted to ride now... had it for over a year and put about 700 miles on it), and didn't have any spare parts, so not sure what is stock and what isn't. Previous owner to him was original owner who seemed to take good care of it and did all the custom work.

Anyways, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions once I really start digging into it.

Got my first vmax today and am pretty stoked. I have previously had 07 warrior, 05 zx6, 79' 650 special and an 07 zx14. I am hoping to have as much fun with the 98 Max i bought today.
