Ah yes, the AFL-CIO. As in "collective bargaining" with the taxpayer (?). Yeah, I don't remember being at any of those meetings....lol, lol. Thanks for proving my point, I couldn't have ever thought of a better example. I rest my case.

im a proud union man, UA 179 plumber pipefitter, and also was on the collective agreement committe. I support O.L. but I also support the fact that people neex to work. and if you work union or non union, thats fine, but there needs to be jobs PERIOD.
Now, im lucky to be in a place that hasnt felt the ressecion yet, but I dont take it for granted.
The whole premise of this post was to show that we are all the same work wise, but there are somethings ppl need to realize...
the non union side ALWAYS sets the wage bar. you notice the non unoin side waits till theres a new agreement and adjusts it for thier jobs? Next time you see a really old union fella. thank him for the sacrifices he made in the 20s,30s and 40s concerning work. because if it wasnt for guys loike that you wouldnt have a 40 hour workweek. You wouldnt have any kind of benefits. You wouldnt have any kind of pension. Ppl take these things for granted and dont know how they came about.
Again, im all for ppl just plain working. But please dont dog O.L. because its done alot for you that many dont appreciate.

O.L. when it started was so very much needed. It is probably needed as much now as was then. Companies run right over their workers ( not every one of them ) taking as much as they can. The greed of companies has gotten out of hand. The pay and benefits of the ones in charge is totally insane. O.L. has it's good points and bad points, I worked for a company that was going through O.L. talks. I was one of the hand full senior workers there. the fellow that was pushing the hardest for the union ask me if I was in favour of the union. I asked him what do we gain from going union, he replied "everything". I then asked him what do we have to give up to get that 'everything' he could not tell me anything. Then I told him that the union is a great idea, but you have to give something to get something else in return. He still did not get it, the union vote failed. The failed for one reason, greed. They thought that if their was a union in place that the company would just roll over and hand them the keys to the company and get anything they wanted. It this case the union might have changed things but I seen the writing on the wall and the company would have just folded shop, taken their jobs and left.

Amen Brother, UA Local #469 Steamfitter myself. And yes the guys before me are why everyone has the benefits they do today except for the ones Reagon tried or took away. Jobs would be good and we're getting more every day. BO is everyones president in the USA and they should act like it. Good Luck, Spurs
