Not likely. You may have the float levels off or too much A/F mixture screw.

Hey, the reason opening the exhaust richens is because the engine is allowed to breath more. General rule is opening up exhaust richens and opening up intake leans.


With that said, would shimming the Y in the airbox (and maybe adding a K&N) open up the intake if you had opened the exhaust some, like adding a set of supertrapp slipons (with open end caps or alot of disc)? I know the slip-ons aren't alot as it is the headers that are the main exhaust restriction, but it should have some sort effect over stock...right?
 
Don't expect much of a gain but it will lean it a little. Shimming the "Y" would be just fine to do. Still going to need a smaller main for it too.

What would you have to do to prevent from having to re-jet. I mean, by adding the just the slip-ons, w/o headers, you would only slightly be opening up the exhaust...and in the process, make the fuel to air mixture a little richer. So conversely, wouldn't just opening up the intake a little counter act the initial effect, thus putting the intake, exhaust, and more importantly, the fuel to air mixture back into "balance".

Still kinda learning this and seemed to fall right inline with the topic at hand.
 
The carbs only will take some much additional airflow without having to do air correctors ect...

Many guys have installed the slip-ons and been fine but not achieving the potential of the exhaust and in some cases you can actually be so rich as to end up with cylinder problems (rebuild a 2006 2 years ago with a little over 1000 miles that had that problem).

ahhh ok...So it isn't so much a game of balancing the ins and outs, but balancing them within the restrictions of how much air the carb can actually handle...gotcha....
