My fiance' invited a her friends over the other day (a couple). I have a Beta 525RR woods bike, a Honda Express scooter, a couple riding lawn mowers, and the 'Max. Assuming the guy (very cool guy BTW) would be intimidated by a BRAND NEW 2007 1200CC bike that looks...well...like a V-Max looks - I expected him to wanna toodle around the yard on the scooter or something. I said "See anything you'd like to toy around on?"
You guessed it! He pointed to the 'Max and said "I'd LOVE to ride that!"
I asked, "Have you ridden motorcyles much? That's basically a tame drag-bike."
"Oh yeah" he says "I had a Trail 90 for years. And I've ridden friends' motorcycles."
No SH$T!! I'm sooooo on the spot now.
I told myself that toys are for playing with, and set him up with a helmet and a running V-Max. I was sorta dealing with my anxiety OK...then he hopped on, looked at the shifter and said "That's my clutch...errr..shifter?" doh...
I said, "Yeah, shifter"
He then asked if all the gears were up. Are you guys feeling me here? I was Uuuuup-tight. And the big finish was that he then just popped it into gear - without pulling in the clutch first. It lurched forward and died. I was crapping my pants. I got him going and said my prayers - and I am not a religious man. I have never been more nervous about anyone on any bike I loaned them. Ever. He came back OK. But later when we needed some parts for something, he said "Looks like someone need to ride that Bike to Lowe's."
I said nothing, but I thought "No Friggin Way!!!"
I know it sounds like our worst nightmare, but this really happened...just like this...yesterday!
Lesson learned LOL!!:confused2:
