Here are a few questions.

My XS1100 was an 80LG (midnight special)

The gold on the bike was plated, in the pictures it looks like paint. also, the instrument cluster on the 80 LG were round with a 85mph speedo not the square 160 speedo. Have to agree though, I did the headlight mod as well.

We have 3 days to get this guy wound up :eusa_dance:

I need to get SS involved in this!! This way we can play the guy and he would never suspect any connection since SS is from Boston and I am from Nashville.
All I need is someones phone number to give the guy:ummm: Anyone have an X's phone number they want to get back?

Every time I read a new post on this thread, I laugh out loud. This is some funny ****! I wonder how many people he has watching this. Lankee, you should ask him if he is interested in a partial trade for your scooter.... You trade him your scooter and he gives you the bike and $1500:biglaugh:.

I havent gotten a response back yet from the previous email I sent this afternoon, so............................ I wrote another one to get him warmed up a little.. Check this out...

"Hi Again
I hope I am not bothering you by emailing you to much. You have to understand how excited I am to find this bike and the all the work you have done to bring it to such great condition. Three more days... Man this reminds me when I was kid waiting for Christmas morning to come. I found an 81 model in Northern Indiana that I may go check out this Saturday are you far from there?
That gold really adds a classy touch with the black paint! I bet this bike is a real chick magnet! How does it ride passengers? My wife is a little on the heavy side so thats part of the reason I was looking for a big bike like the XS, I know it sure hell has enough power for us to pull these hills in TN.
Please email me back, is there anyone else interested in the bike? How much to buy it out right? I really want your XS.
Thanks

This guy's gotta be kicking himself for putting a mere $1500 on this bike. You know he's figuring that guy from TN to be good for 3 grand minimum!! :biglaugh:

Wonder if it's time for another e mail from somewhere else like........."Wow, you don't see these bikes every day! $1500 seems pretty low, is there something wrong with it?"

Lankee--"My wife is a little on the heavy side......" TOO FRIGGIN' FUNNY!!

Someone needs to ask him how many are watching his auction now. maybe Lankee can present it like he's worried he may not be able to get the bike if a lot of people are watching because the bids at the end may beat him out for it.

Sean

Ok got an email back...:eusa_dance:

Dear lankeeyankee1972,
No problem. I don't mind answering questions if you're serious
about placing a bid. I'm tired of people that want this bike for
nothing. I have over $3,000 invested in this so it's a steal for
anybody who wants a nice vintage ride. I'm getting married
and need to sell it so there's nothing wrong with it that I'm
aware of at this point.
I've ridden it alone as well as with my fiance and it rides great
either way. As far as the paint, the frame is powder coated
along with many other parts. Professional auto paint and body
work was done on the side covers and gas tank as well. Some
of the gold has already started looking a little funky but that is
due to the guy that rebuilt the carburetors for me. He got carb
cleaner on some of the paint so it affected the gold a bit.
Nothing that can't be touched up.
If you want it out right then I'd much rather have around $2500
for it. Let me know what you'd like to pay and we'll see what
happens towards the end of the auction here. I have had
another gentleman from Kentucky ask me about buying out
right as well. Think about it and please feel free to ask any
other questions that you have. I have nothing to hide about
this bike. Still needs a little tweaking but it rides fine and
starts every time. Have a great day and email me soon.

Hi RNKS
Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. I am sure you are flooded with questions about this bike at such a low price and the superb condition it's in. You dont find many of these bikes around its a classic. I am not worried about the money part of it of course I would like to get the best deal I can. I have been looking for this model bike and here it is exactly what I been looking for.
I am already looking for saddlebags for it, I am starting a burrito delivery buisness in the spring for the Nashville metro area. I see the auction ends in 3 days?? That is Sunday, I was going to head up to Indiana Saturday to check out another XS. How many watchers do you have so I know what decision to make.. I really want this bike...
Thanks.

Oh **** me runnin'!! A burrito delivery business!! I got tears running down my friggin'cheeks!! :rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200:

It was either saddle bags or a Burrito cart to pull behind the bike. I figured that may be a little to much.

Hot Burritos Come and Get em!

The add is pretty arrogant for sure.

But I won't make fun of an XS1100....

Of course it hasn't aged as well as the Max but in it's time it was a pretty sweet bike, and for a lot of middle aged guys, it probably has some reminiscent vakue for someone out there.

It's worth $1500 for sure...

And yes, the gold paint looks like **** on a white chicken.....

it was a pretty sweet bike, quote]

This line reminds me of the Naoplean Dynamite movie when Napolean was riding his bike and Pedro says Sweet ever take it over any jumps"

XS is a real turd that was competing against the GPZ's and they would stomp all over the XS.. The VMAX is the only Yamaha which is ok, the rest of there line suck and come in last in no matter where they compete. The 4 wheeler Banshe was about the onlything that was ok in 4 wheelers but Suzuki came out with the Qaud Racer that stomped all over it. No matter what Yamaha does someone always knocks them in the dirt or kicks there ass off the asphalt.

Too each his owm, I have no problem with that.

I didn't say it was the fastest thing on the planet, I said it was sweet.

It was by no means a dog, wasn't meant to be a hotrod, it was just a peppy cruiser if that, but it was also light years ahead of the bikes being built 5 years earlier.

And it was not competing with the GPz or anything else, the GPz was light years ahead of it's time, a true forerunner to the genuine sportbike, the Yamahas were just what they were, thats all..no more, no less....

" No matter what Yamaha does someone always knocks them in the dirt or kicks there ass off the asphalt. "

Are you saying the FJ1300, the R1, R6, FZ1 and FZ6 are all junk?

I'm not buying it, admittedly the Suzuki's Gixxers are faster, but yammies never really aimed for the track recently except for the R models and they are extremely compentent dependable bikes. And no ones built a sport tourer yet that would hold a candle to the FJ till the concourse came along, and it's uglier than a mud fence....

And for the much belittled (on this board) cruiser market, Yamaha 'effin owns (to the tune of around 45% of it) the metric cruiser market, and for good reason........

Actually at one point the XS11 was the fastest production motorcycle. Beating out the KZ, and the GS series who were the king cruisers of thier time.

Comparing an 80's GPz to an XS who's production run ended in 81 and, like the max, the engine design remained virtually the same give or take a few comp. numbers, is like comparing the busa to the Vmax.

I agree Rusty, to each thier own.

Bob Jones knows his **** when it comes to the XS, I took alot of my cues from him when I built mine.

What makes me laugh is that in this eBay add, that guy didn't even manage to post a single decent shot of his bike! They are all weird angles and close-ups, but where's the 'whole bike from each side' pictures!?

Burrito delivery service - that had me piss me pants - nice 1 Lankee :rofl_200::rofl_200:

I havent got a response back yet:confused2:
So maybe he figured out that I am an arrogant ahole and need some personality lessons, who wants to be my instructor?

You are right KJ. The XS1100E was released in 1978 and it was the fastest production motorcycle. It won or placed well in just about every major production (especially endurance) race that year in OZ . Not bad for a touring bike!

Competition from other manufacturers came very quickly and it was knocked of it's perch the following year by the Suzuki GSX1100.

This model featured in ebay was the end of the production run for XS1100 and was specifically designed to cater for the crowd that liked the chopper look.

The engine featured in this model laid the ground work for the FJ series crankshafts and was much narrower than the XS1100E or G models.

Kawasaki responded to Suzuki with the GPZ series in about 1980-1 and were never aiming to compete with the XS1100.

Anyway, how's the auction going :ummm:
