I know it causes an issue when the bulb burns out. Can't remeber what the issue is though. I'm thinking the fuel pump will only work if its in the "RES" position if the bulb is cooked. Not 100% sure on that. I believe Ragingmain had this issue. Maybe he will chime in.

If you were to go with an LED in there I wonder if it would work if you were to hook the wires together to complete the path and then T off of it to feed the LED so the Voltage didn't have to pass through the bulb to make the circuit work. Just talking out of my ass here.

Maybe.
I think your right, normally the power goes to the pump through the tank sending unit, when you run low enough it cuts power to the pump then turns on the light prompting the switch to reserve which returns power to the pump for the final half gallon. If the bulb burns out you definitely wouldn't know when you're low except you'd start chugging soon. When I installed all LED's in the pod the light didn't come on under the half gal mark so I turned the LED around and it stayed on all the time. I gave up and just put a bulb back in.Probably have to mod it like the flasher, two LED's soldered back to back and the two wires to the bulb on the neg side so it flashes for both directions.

Sorry my input is somewhat late - have only just found the thread!

You can get an LED to work in the pod provided you also use a ballast resistor (4.7 Ohm, 7 watt) wired in parallel to the LED to mimic the bulb.
