he meant knee guards that go on the bike ryan.

What's that? I don't follow.

Edit: ah, I see. They're like heat shields on 2 stroke pipes. Never heard them called knee guards....

The only trade off with solid mounts is they'll be considerably more vibe in the handlebars. Some people find this annoying, others not so much. You can fill the handlebars with birdshot or special made "bar snakes" to try and cancel it out.

yea they don't do much of anything but look cool (if you like them) they don't shield your knees from anything..

yea.. i would never do solid motor mounts again. stick with frame braces. the vibes were undamped with a barsnake for me. if i ever pull the engine stock engine mounts will go back in. otherwise its not worth a 5h adventure for me.

My only issue with the solid mounts are bolt coming loose. The vibes haven't bothered me.
If you have the bike torn down for other work it makes it go a lot quicker. I already had the exhaust, carbs, and wheel off so I was halfway there when I put them in. Wasn't too bad. It did take some time though.

I haven't had a much of a issue with my solid mounts (Jedi's) and I think I had only one bolt loosen up. The vibes in the mirrors are definitely worse but I'm going to try some different mirrors or may even try the Ricor Vibranators to clear the mirrors.
Installing was easy for me since I already had the engine out for some work.

front 4 were easy enough but it took 2 hours to situated the engine to get the last 2 in.

yea i've noticed lots of bolts getting loose, have you loc-tited any engine cover bolts? I'm thinking i'm gonna have to once i get them all back on (blue not red)...

No, I didn't put any loctite on the engine cover bolts. Whatever bolts were off to put the mounts in went on with loctite though. None of those have come loose. Only things that came loose (that I noticed so far) were the stator cover bolts. The clutch cover bolts seemed just a touch loose. The mid gear cover bolts were pretty good but I gave them just a little more torque.

probably wouldn't hurt anything to put a dab of blue on them tho eh?

I don't see it hurting anything. If the problem continues that is what I will have to do. I hoping it will stop though. I don't use loctite on the bolts for my engine covers on the CR5 and that thing is like riding a vibrator compared to the max.

(taking back my thread from the hijackers....lol)

i dont think i will be doing solid motor mounts. the vibrations i get now makes my hands go numb, i have a set of kuryakyn iso grips i will be putting on a set of drag bars when i get some to help with the vibrations i have now. i think putting frame braces on will make the frame more rigid than solid mounts would sine the braces keep the frame from twisting and the solid mounts wouldnt do that... i know a bunch of guys with harleys that put solid mounts in their bikes and hated the way the bike felt afterwards.

thats what i'd do. you can try a barsnake or birdshot anyways see if it helps!

Good thinking on the braces. Do you have a aftermarket ( thicker / stronger than stock ) fork brace ? Swingarm brace is also recommended when you have the time & $ to add it to your existing arm. Notch it if you like a slightly wider wheel / tire combo. :punk:

no i dont have a thicker fork brace or swing arm brace. i ran a slightly wider tire in my max without notching the swing arm, if i notch it i might be able to go a few sizes wider then huh? where do i get a swing arm brace from?

yes on the wider rim & tire , 190 - 17 gives you sportbike rim width and excellent radial rubber choices. :punk:

Swingarm brace can be done by local welder .

170 is about the most you want to go on the stock 3.5" wheel.

170 is what i had on the rear before and it didnt touch my swingarm. last time i ordered a tire for the rear the guy messed up and ordered me a stock size one again, he's a douche bag...

bonus, i am a local welder/fabricator. mostly off road stuff but i can learn... i used to work in a steel mill building railroad cars.

Great , all you need is a few pictures to show where the extra bracing goes. Here is a few of mine . Others will chime in I'm sure. :punk:

Here is some more braced swingarm pics. This is a double notched (for up to 210 tire) one from my bike.
It's a cycle one off piece.
