Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

nope. i'm just saying I think it CAN contribute to a wobble.

Well now I decided to keep them.......lol they were wrapped up and a UPS sticker on them, good thing UPS didn't come.

I've checked a few more places and you get different opinions no matter who you ask. The general opinion is going up to a 120 in the front is safe and OK it does fit..as far as a wobble I think most anything can contribute to one.

I guess when I mount them and if I have a wobble I will report back and your half warning should have been listened to..........lol Not busting your balls Chris, it's just that I understood you when I first asked about going to a 120 saying it was fine ..I don't recall you saying I would have to go with a bigger rim so this now has me a bit confused.

I posted another question for people who have put a 120 on the stock rim and hopefully I will get back some feedback from those who have done it and tried it the way I am going to.

I told you it was fine? Not sure when I did that but OK. IMO I have two tires on my bike... I want them to be proper. Engineers get paid a lot of money to design things...

Two things I don't go cheap on... Tires and brakes.

OK I will accept that opinion and everyone has a different one. I agree in most cases about not going "cheap" but many times expensive doesn't mean quality.. now as far as tires go I think it's the old Ford - Chevy thing.

Only way to find out is to try them I guess.

Chris refresh my memory, what do you run again type and size?

I'm running a 5.5" rim on back and a 3.5" rim on front and run 180/120 which is the optimal size for the rims. You could say that I am running a size not intended for the bike, and you'd be right. The tires however are right for the size of rim.

Opinions are like a holes... Everyone has one...

Do what you want and be happy but if you have ANY reservations, you may want to look at something else.

I've done some more checking and feel comfortable and I guess time will tell... I guess the problem is ( and I am not blaming anyone !! ) those who feel they don't know take the advice of those they feel do know..

Sometimes you just have to try something different to know for sure. I remember in the past on my other VMAX'S I would NEVER run any other tires than a contenetal but now a days you rarely even hear about them when people talk about motorcycle tires.

I just had a guy who works at a motorcycle tire wholesaler and he told me that the shinko tourmasters are very good tires and many stay away becaue they are not a expensive tire. He said that in a few years he feels this will be the tire of choice by many.. Once again just an opinion..

:confused2:

Thats just another opinion. Shinko's aren't really known as a quality tire. Neither is Conti. But I had a set of Conti's on my goldwing, as other from a goldwing forums, and loved them. you've heard the good reviews ppl here have about the shinko. Others don't like the Avon Venom. I ran them on my chopper that made more power and tq than the Vmax in a big margin. those tires performed flawlessly. I hammered it at a lower speed the tire stuck and I ended up ripping out 13 of the 30 spokes on my rear rim. I went with a metzler cause I used to run a metz comp K on my big bore XS11. over 1300cc's and over 225 of nitrous fed hp the tire held up most excellent. Unfortunately it took a few bucks and several tires to come up with a tire I liked.

The only way to know for sure is just run em. if they work for you then thats the rubber you need to have. :)

if it means anything, i think it contributes to the wobble but i still run a 120 shinko. i think it has to do with the visible runout (for my bike), and i'll be itnerested to see if my wobble goes away (altho i can rarely reproduce it) wheni replace the front, with another 120 shinko

Try turning the tire 180? on the rim and then rebalance and see what happens.

Chris

i dunno if thats it chris, since when it was mounted it had no visible runout and has since developed it after sitting all winter. honestly its not enough to bother me..

to see it i usually have to be in second gear, let me hands off the bars, be above 50 mph and then smack the handlebars. 50% of the time my damper will recover it but the other 50% of the time i'd go into a tank slapper...

i think i need to check tightness on the front end
and make sure the head bearings are ok

checkout Sean's video it is very good, some things you can't see very well but if you ask him he will explain more than enough so you understand him..

I would give anything to work with Sean and do his video and the edits so that his videos are top notch. They are very good now but like we all say there is always roon for improvement.

" wow " "kj" i just had a 27 year flash back , i used these on my " xs1100 " i haven't herd that model mentioned in so long , i had forgotten about those !

I just went on Metzler's web-site , they recommend inflating the rear tire ( ME880 ) to 44-46 lbs. and the front 38-40 lbs. , Does anyone run that much air ?

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

will this fit on vmax? 160 60 15

im looking at a bridgestone battleax, thats what my front is so i guess ill burn 1 up on the rear quick and see how it works, dont know if it will fit though?
OK,
This looks interesting. Any one run the smaller diameter rear on the MAX at the drag strip and note their quarter mile times??? If it is really 10% smaller this should ROCK on the dragstrip providing it would hook up.

Somebody tell me they are in the know with this combination.......:ummm:

Im now trying to figure out why the shop service manager just called me back wondering why Im putting this 880 170/80/15 and the 110-90-18 on a Vmax.. :confused2:

Anyone?

some shops don't like to put non-stock sizes on, liability n shit
