Is it a clutch issue or tranny issue?

Damn naughty.....I REALLY hope to god that I don't have the same problems you had when you changed your fluid. That blows!
I'm going to see if I can get a friend to help me out when I do it. Not too sure that having the woman assist me will actually HELP all that much LOL

Bleeder kit at AdvanceAuto is $10-ish. I'm gonna get it tonight, along with the fluid, and attempt it. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

you will be fine - it's just that it won't do it the way you'd expect it to, or the way it works every time when doing brakes.
The bleeder kit should help, a MightyVac isn't hugely expensive, or as I did it in the end, reverse bleeding by pushing the fluid through the bleeder nipple back to the fluid tank should be a breeze now that you know about it.
Check out Advance for syringes, they should have some for a few bucks.

Already talked to my buddy at Advance. They have a DIY bleeder kit for like $10. It includes a syringe. I'm going to attempt this tonight....after my pre-marital counseling session.

now there's something. Maybe if I'd done that I wouldn't have gotten divorced?

Or married, for that matter... :biglaugh::confused2:

LOL that's the ultimate goal we're shootin for. We're pretty much meant for each other in SO many ways. Unless we get married and she turns into a different woman....which I've heard is typical. lol

whats the phrase?

women marry a man expecting him to change and they don't
men marry a woman expecting them not to change and they do

in all seroiusness, best of luck bro

Then just don't - you can't go wrong then eh? :clapping:

Thanks bro. We should be a-ok. Neither of us believe in divorce, so we're in it for the long haul. Lots of people nowadays get divorced after having one fight (exaggeration, but not by much). Fights are common in a marriage. It's how you deal with it, and get past it.

Replaced the clutch fluid in my lines today....and HOLY **** I didn't realize how bad it needed to be done!!!! The fluid in the lines was almost black....and there were little black floaties in the m/c also. Luckily, I didn't have any complications like naughtyG did. My biggest problem was getting the hose ON the bleeder....and keeping it on there. The hose that came with the bleeder kit was small and took some coaxing to get on. It kept coming off because of the pressure. My brakes need to be done as well, because they are the same color. Let's hope it solves my clutch slippage problem! I'm headed out on the bike until Monday....will report on it when I'm back.

How do I take care of the brake fluid? There is more than one bleeder for the brakes.

The rear caliper has two bleeders. Bleed from both bleeders like there are two calipers back there. Same with fronts. Bleed one side and then repeat for other. The second side won't take as long to bleed since you only need to change fluid from the short line to that caliper.

Just got back from my trip. It was something like 200 miles round trip. I didn't notice ANY slippage of the clutch the whole trip there. I made sure to test it very well :biglaugh:

I did notice on the way BACK today though that the slippage problem still occurs occasionally when everything is not warmed up. I'm going to have to take the m/c cover off again to make sure it's still full of fluid.

i know a couple guys have noticed that with synthetic oils... what do u run?

I am not sure. I picked it up at Advance Auto....I think it was Valvoline DOT4 brake fluid. That's about all I can tell ya without going there to look at the bottles again.

I believe he means are you running synthetic motor oil. Yamaha calls for non-synthetic in the max and many claim to feel slippage when they try a synthetic out.

Might be lucky and that is the only thing causing the problem.

I would bet it is the synthetic oil as I am having the same issue. Until the engine is fully warmed up the clutch tends to slip under harder throttle use. I am going to go back to regular Rotella T 15w40.

I'm pretty sure that there's Yamalube in it right now. It was changed by the dealership when they replaced my starter clutch.

i would double check. check the work order or call the dealer

Just changed the oil over to Rotella and changed the filter. Went out for a brief ride and it still slips in 4th and 5th gear above 4K rpms. Looks like it's time to replace the clutch plates.

Judging by the condition of the oil that I drained out of the bike, the dealership lied to me about not only what they did when they installed Sean's jet kit, they also lied to me about changing my oil last year. The oil was pitch black. And the oil filter was ancient....it took a few beats with a hammer and LOTS of elbow grease to get the damned thing off.

ugh! man more and more talk of dealers ******* **** up.

do urself a favor tho and go with a K&N filter, its got a nut on the front to torque it down to spec and easily remove it w/out strap wrenches n ****. i think they're like $10 thru bikebandit.
