Welcome back! If I were closer I'd help.... not that I would be much help, but I could pass wrenches and beer!

Well, finishing up my thread, I got everything put back together and took her for a spin last night briefly. I never did end up taking pictures to do a How-To for engine removal....although I'm sure that I could take random pictures of the bike in one piece and draw arrows to what parts need to be removed and in what order.

Don't worry about it, I'll probably have to pull my motor AGAIN this winter, so I'll document it. :bang head:

Ok, I went for a quick spin tonight inbetween rain squalls. It's been raining all day long. Damn Indiana weather. I can't wait to move.

I only hit a short stretch of highway, and didn't wanna test it TOO much since it was dark and I couldn't see any cops......

60MPH = 3k RPMS
75 MPH = 4k RPMS

I'll hopefully do more testing tomorrow on the interstate if i ride to work.

The difference between 4th and 5th gear now is so amazing. I am REALLY glad that I spent the extra money for the overdrive 5th gear from Sean. And I'm even MORE glad that I didn't screw anything up!!!!

I would like to hear from someone who has solid motor mounts though....can you feel a very noticable vibration from the engine as the RPMs go higher?

I think Garrett's just been saying recently that SMM add a lot of vibes in higher revs. I'm gonna fit some to my bike soon, I think I'll be looking at a barsnake too..

i do NOT have the mounts on mine yet, but everything i've read has indicated you 'feel' the engine more including maleko's thoughts. you also feel it as rpms increase.

Ok, I've got new figures after the morning ride to work.....

85 MPH = 4500 RPMS
95 MPH = 5000 RPMS
105 MPH = 5500 RPMS

I can actually CRUISE at 105 now.....without the engine racing. It was kinda nice.
Although I turned a corner and scraped the **** out of my bellypan. And I noticed that one of the screws holding the bellypan on rattled loose and fell off somewhere between home and work. Damnit anyhow.

HAHAHAHHAHA 105 @ 5500 rpms! that is absolutely awesome. i wonder if it increases the top speed any?

i'd order one tomorrow if i didn't have tos plit my cases.

We've done over 200mph on the dyno but you won't get there on the street. Most will be slightly slower on the street top speed without an increase in power to help overcome the lower RPMs vs wind speed.

Afterall, when you shift at 115-120mph from 4th into 5th your not even going to have the v-boost open.

wow 105 @ 5500 that's just awesome. And 4500 for 85 mph is just perfect in my book.

I assume you're using the Vmax pumpkin, right?

Also, you changed only 5th gear right? 1 - 4 still the same as any Max?

Correct on both counts.

Sadly, I've gotta revisit this thread. I figured it would be better than creating a whole new one.

Now that I've ridden the bike quite a bit since I got the whole tranny rebuild finished, I'm noticing sounds that I've never heard before. The main sound is a whirring of sorts. It almost sounds like a whirring/whining noise that comes either from inside the engine itself or from the carbs. Maybe I'm just having a hypochondriac moment. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It's also a ****** to get the damn bike into neutral now. I'm thinking that I may try changing my clutch fluid. Not sure that will do much, but I'm sure it needs to be changed anyhow.

Did you just rebuild the clutch slave cylinder? Might give that a try if you haven't already.

A fluid change won't hurt anything. Make sure the fluid is not too full as this can cause problems. May need to turn idle up a bit. Noises are hard to diagnose for sure. The lower r's could be congtributing too.
