Last night I was putting all the body parts back on and getting the bike ready to ride, then I saw these issues. I saw some tranny fluid and some spots that looked as if there was some leaking. I listed links rather than posting the pictures in the forum I wanted to keep them as large as possible so that you can see everything in full size detail. I have not even driven this Vmax yet since I bought it in April for many reasons which I will be glad to talk about later but I hope this thread can stay on what is happening here.

The Gen II is a wet clutch like the Gen I....it's lubed by the same oil used in the motor.....so you're not looking at trannie fluid, unless someone added a small amount to the engine oil and spilled it....which is possible.

I just checked, that color matches my K&N kit, oil. If that's the case, you might want to clean them and re-oil them with just a fine mist. Over oiled filters can be restrictive. Hopefully that's the only issue to solve, and you have good luck with your bike.

I asked him last week to make sure and let them dry a day or so before trying to put them on and he said he made sure they were dry.

I've done nothing to the bike haven't even rode it yet, long story. I had a mishap in my garage on a motorcycle dolly I bought and the bike tipped over and I fought it all the way down and it lamed on the end of the handlebar and stayed in that position for several minutes, could that have caused the obvious leak. ???

Didn't you just re-oil your K&N filters, Ron?
Isn't the oil red in color??
Cheers!

Yes I did and I left them for a day and a half inside to make sure they didn't have excess oil that would dip. That is what it is isn't it? dang!! what is the best stuff to use to clean the engine area that oil residue is on?

Trust me I followed your instructions and thought a day and a half was enough time I rotated them about every few hours. I guess even that wasn't enough time. Sorry I had to reinstall windows and everything else so I am replying to all these and that is why all my replies are in a row. sorry

You are suggestion I remove them clean them again and then re oil them. I asked Miles I think but when I remove them again what is best to clean the engine where the oil all over?

I'm still in shock you haven't ridden your bike .... use a Little soap and water Blue dawn works great on oil just go easy on the water over spray . As far as your k&n's go you can take a paper towel wrap it around the filters and using your hands lightly massage filters to soak up extra oil or just re clean them Also will you video your first ride !

IIRC the K&N oil can say one quick spray per pleat and 24 hours in the sun. There are only 12 hours of daylight here so that is 2 days, sorry for the confusion.

+1 to what Jamie suggested. Dish detergent cleans up oil well. I used Simple Green before also. I just shoot a light, even mist when I do K&N's.

I have a feeling his first ride may end up on you tube:biglaugh:

I'd really like to know how many gen two owners have the Nash flash and pipes and still couldn't run a mid ten second 1/4 OR do a 100 ft smoke show:ummm:

Why I haven't rode my Vmax yet, Trust me it is a long and crappy story I promise my first ride will be videoed!!!!! The reason I haven't rode my Vmax yet is when I had the mishap in my garage with the motorcycle dolly, my Vmax slide off of it or slipped on it and I fell off and I fought the bike all the way down. It ended up landing on the end of the handlebar so not much damage, very little but my knee buckled under me and I tore the **** out of my knee and had to have 2 surgeries. So now you know why. I didn't want to post too much at the time because I was battling with a few guys and I think I would have blown a gasket here too and get banned, I promised Gary I wouldn't let the fight in the other forum come here even though I did, but it was fixed fast.

Do you really think trying to soak up the oil rather than cleaning them again and re-applying the oil ?? I kind a think so too cause if I redo the process I could put too much oil again. I let then sit on paper towels for almost 2 days and I rotated them to try and get any excess oil out but I guess I didn't.

I guess I will try the paper towel way unless there is any reason I shouldn't??

I kept them inside the house, maybe that is where I messed up even my garage is warm as hell in the daytime

I guess what I meant was even though I didn't have my bike or bikes titled when I first bought them I couldn't resisted not riding them .. Somebody suggested to me when I first bought my gen 2 I should buy a rear stand to pretend to ride because it was in the dead of winter and my dirt road had a layer of ice on it ..lol So I guess I waited a little too before riding mine ..
