0426. Stock and pulled out of storage for 15 years. In progress. Will be on the road in 2 weeks.
I think we have to seperate the VIN-numbers in 3 different export markets as my "internet research" has given me 3 "different" models" in 1985: 1FK, 1GR and 1JH.
Frame No.: 1FK 000101-010000, Model Name: VMX12, USA
Frame No.: 1GR 000101-003000, Model Name: VMX12, USA (CANADA?)
Frame No.: 1JH 000101-002000, Model Name: VMX12, USA (California?)
It's possible 1FK are the first production, as it has the highest VIN-numbers, and many "un-changed" spareparts from 1985 to 2007 (like the handlebar or the airfilterbox) has 1FK in the front of the part-number.

:rofl_200:Greetings from Cyprus...(for those who do not know where Cyprus is, it is an island in the Mediterranean :biglaugh. I just picked up my 85 VMax today and after coming across this forum and reading all your comments here, I went downstairs to check my number too. Apparently I have just picked up #0105 which was imported from the USA. It is completely stock. Previous owner added a kill switch for the lights as a means of conserving battery life. I plan on keeping it as is except perhaps putting some new "leather" on the seat as it is pretty worn out. Oh and I have to get rid of the sticker with the naked lady on the front "tank" cover. I do not know what the previous owner was thinking but it was not warmly welcomed by my Mrs. unk:
Constantinous, that is the fifth bike made for U.S. Market ! I wonder if Yamaha even has one lower production number than that! Maybe they have a pre-production or proto type in their collection. I know it looks just like any other Vmax but I would love for you to take pictures of the head tube sticker or VIN stamp so we can all ogle at it and do an act of obeisance to it. What a "survivor"! You lucky dog!
Now I'm jealous and feeling inadequate.
When in doubt...Gas it !!!
How cool is that?!
