Re: ???????on rear tire

On the stock rim. Shinko 203 Tour Master fits well enough for most. Metzeler 880's work for some as well. No mod's usually required for either. The Shinko is real sticky and you typically wont get a lot of miles out of it. The Metz is a harder compound, and a lower speed rating I believe.

Re: ???????on rear tire

You can, I and others here are running 170 metz's 880's on the back. Others still are running 170 shinkos too.

With the metz I didin't have to do the washer swap. It was just a simple slap it on and bolt it up.

Re: ???????on rear tire

Bill, the way you smoke your tire all the time you should get a solid rubber one if you want to get any miles out of it:rofl_200:

I will be stepping up to the 170 myself before too long, Like Wildman, I like to haze the rear every chance I get, which brand of tire will last the longest under these brutal conditions?

I'm not the kindest to tires. I eat at least one a year. Until now, I put the metz on in the beginning of the season last year and I still have plenty of life in it to go another season or two. The first picture, the dust makes it look like its squaring out, but it's not. Its just the same as it was when I put it on.

You shouldn't have any issues directly swapping a 170 in...lots of people do it.

The Shinko t230 is "v" rated, which is 149mph. The Metz is only "H" rated, which is 130. Had mine to the top end 145mph or so for several minutes...with a plug in the tire. No problems.

Ratings like that always take huge safety factors into consideration....actual fail speed is probably double or more the rated speed. Not like the second you hit 131 the tire blows.

Hey Wildman,
I'm trying out the Shinko 170 for the first time this riding season. If I don't like it, I'll probably switch to the Metlers.

my 150 metz lasted about 1200 miles i like 2nd gear smokers:clapping:.prob wont go to a softer tire witch might last 300 miles:ummm:

can i get one:ummm:ya right would be fun end less burnouts till ya see sparks then rim and tire.:bang head::punk:

You can run the Metz 880 at high speed for a long time , the speed ratings for tires are set too such a high standard that whether it is V rated or H rated are not going to affect you on the street . Compound of the tire is what you need too know , if you want a tire for just doing burnouts and are not worried about mileage get a hard compound if you want mileage and burnouts get a little softer compound and if you want just plain old sticky tires get the softest compound possible . main thing is keep track of tire pressure with what ever tire you go with , My last ME 880 lasted 10,000 miles with many burn outs and drag strip passes on it included in this were some 5th gear burn outs at Thunder a few yrs. ago .

hey kosRider let me no what you think of that tire.Think i am going to go with Metler 170 dont want to do the washer thing hope it dont rub

With my metz 170 there's just enough clearance to slip a quarter through without it touching, but two won't fit. Even if it rubs a teeny bit, after like 10 miles it'll rub away the edge and "make" clearance.

I have the ME 880 in 170/80/15. It fit mine with room to spare. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

GOT THE NEW TIRE ON. 170 FIT NO PROBS WITH ROOM TO SPARE NOW I AM WONDERING IF A 180 WILL FIT. DO NOT NO IF THEY MAKE A 180:ummm:. ANYWAY DID A COUPLE 2ND GEAR SMOKERS:clapping: GOT TO QUIT THAT SH@## BUT DAM IT SURE IS FUN. LIKE THE BEEKEEPER SAID SHOULD OF BOUGHT TWO :bang head: :punk: THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS :worthy: BILL

Metzler lists an ME880 180/70B 15 rear. H rated. I don't know anything about it though.
