Hey Miles
I have a 20 litre ali tank that goes up into the rear seat area. The filler will be behind pillion seat.
The dummy tank/airbox cover is just that.

In addition to the space previously used for the OEM tank?
CRANKY! That more than doubles the original gas capacity!:punk:

Couple of updates. .
Scrapped the tank cover and created a new one incorporating the front part of stock scoop.
The bars are 1 1/4" harley cut and shut (and pinned) to resemble bmx bars.
I have a section of roll bar with 2 half lap joints that I'll mate with a mazda sway bar to create frame braces.
And a pair of oldskool bmx handlebar clamps to modify into risers.

Obviously, Mr. Shark, you are a proponent of the Four Rs -reduce, recycle, reuse, and my favorite (and yours)...REPURPOSE.

Mazda sway bars to frame braces! Luv it!

This is all kinda strange. :ummm:So many similarities going on here......

e.g.
- my bike's external framework was fabbed from sections of weightlifting benches
- my present handlebars were cobbled together using old handrailing pieces
- my faux tank - like yours - is the original, mated to a fiberglass extension which houses a tool pouch or a stereo
- my windshields are made from recycled display window Plexiglas
- my headlight bezel was once my wife's prized 8" stainless steel frying pan
- and so on and so on

This is where it gets REALLY weird......
When I was a youngin', full of piss and vinegar, I spent a few months tooling around Australia, meeting more than a few really hot chicks. Unfortunately, I lost contact with them all.
Take a look in a mirror. I think you will see that you resemble Me!
SHARKY, I AM YOUR FATHER!:biglaugh:
Cheers, Son!
p.s. - don't think that you can now hit me up for money. Ain't gonna happen.

No wonder the harley bars are sooooo heavy..the 1" tube is inside the 1 1/4"

I give up......
Decision made. ..going back to stock frame for max...3 kids and house takes too much time for full build.
When I did my xjr I was a single guy enjoying life one woman at a time.
Things different now...still with lady that bought me the max (4yrs).
But reno's etc....just don't have the time.
Think I've sourced a frame..one in the uk and maybe one local to me.
It'll still be a bit different...sad day but the right decision

Sure will.
I just totally underestimated tbe commitment 3 kids means..
Thinking a black on black gold accent..kinda like the midnight special xs1100
