Can a bad starter relay prevent a successful push start? I was stranded the other day and this did'nt work..wondering if something else is going on? Also can the starter transfer gears get stuck on each other and prevent movement?

No. If you can't bump started it means ignition problem, bad battery/charging, and or fouled plugs.

When I got it home I bypassed the relay and it starts up. How would hot starting problems involve the ignition components (what should I look for?) Battery was checked for charge/load and is fine

I'll have to look at the wiring diagram. What year of bike?
