Checked that out. Thanks for the info! I'll find out if any disks are installed tonight, and if not, i'll probably order 9 for each side and adjust from there.

You guys are awesome.

Yep another carb newbe:ummm: Maybe someone can give me some advice. I just went from kerker slip-ons to supertrapps with 8 disk and open end caps. And just sync the carbs with the morgan carb tune. Iam 99.99 percent sure I did it correctly. The problem is now you can really smell gas fumes
Didnt have that with the kerker's .Can someone post a picture which screw is the air-fuel mixture screw. Is there more than 1? Ive looked at a lot of 101 carb links. and just havent found a good picture.

Thanks in Advance for any help guys
Rick

check out the stickies in the carb section here. In the instructions for doing the 'shotgun' cleaning method, there are full pictures describing where PAJ1, PAJ2 and the A/F screws are located. There are one of each for each carb, so four of each altogether!

Also, changing slip-ons may mean your jets could now be the wrong size, but other more experts will chime in no doubt :)

I'm running 11 discs per side with a K&N and only thing I did was adjust the A/F and sync the carbs. It seems a little rich while reading the plugs so I bought some 147.5's that were recomended, I have yet to install them cause its now winter. bike runs like a raped ape and gets decent milage so I didn't want to mess with it during the abreviated summer. Generally you shouldn't have to mess with rejetting when using slip-ons.

Make sure you have the plugs that cover your A/F screws removed, otherwise you might not noticed them if its your first time adjusting them.

The plugs are circled in the picture and the screws are directly behind them.

They aren't mine, I was too lazy to go out to the garage and snap a pic. so I googled them.

Heh, they are kinda loud. :biglaugh:

So i took the bolts off of the end of my exhaust and there is one stainless steel plate. Is that the base plate or does that count as one? That one rests right on the end of the exhaust.

I think i'm gonna order from dennis kirk as well soon...

also, i don't have the bike with me right now, the 4" disks are the ones i want right?

Yes, you will want the 4" discs. If the stainless plate you are refering too has a opening in the middle and holes for the bolts, then yes that is one disc.

Beautiful. I'm not sure why there isn't more disks or an end-cover, but i wanted to know if there was supposed to be some special base-disk or if I was missing it... Sounds like no to both!

Thanks Mitchell!

Yea I had seen that. Definitely good info. How far did you guys torque down your bolts? I dont' see an actual reading anywhere, but it doesn't seem like it'd be much more than maybe 5 ft lbs.

Be sure to use anti-sieze and snug em' up good.

will do. I actually got some used side panels as my bike didnt' come with them and put them on yesterday and messed with the exhaust. it was actually harder to get the bolts off that hold on the side panels then the exhaust ones!

Thanks for all the info! I think i'll order a 18 total disks and some ends today. My bolts are about 3 - 4" long, those will be long enough for 9 disks each side eh?

thanks again!

The stainless end cap bolts will be plenty long and work just fine.

Not a problem, thats what this forum is all about :clapping: I think I have a few spare disks in the shop, lemme know if you need some extra.

UGHHHHHH...

ok so the left side worked great, no problems...

right side, different.

first off the sleve that one bolt goes into had come loose so it just spun with about 1.5" of the bolt sticking out. so i cut it off in hopes that it would fall out, but no dice. seems like there is padding between the actual outside and the bezzel inside and it got stuck in that. didn't really fall at all.

SO i figured, ok 5 bolts out of 6 isn't bad, and then the opposite one of that one's head actually broke off as i finally got them all down. SO i could actually get that one off if i took all the disks back off, but i don't have a spare bolt now anyways.

so my question is, is that really goign to be a problem? the one bolt that broke off probably won't go anywhere it just needs a new one when i get a chance but i'm more worried about the one who's sleve broke off in there. i turned on the bike and it hadn't moved, and it also looks like whoever had my biek before me welded the slip-ons on!!... not sur etho b/c there's no bolts or clamps....

anyone have any thoughts?? thanks in advance...

are you talking about the allens that hold the discs in? I have a few spare lying around, shoot me a pm with your address and I'll get them out to you.
