Yeah, with stock exhaust most of the carb, etc. is caught in the collector just behind the rear headers. Stock exhaust isn't rich if you're at or near sea level.

Okay GTO, I'm for sure making time to illustrate how to change the main jet. I'll post it on this site tonight.

Thanks Jim. Hopefully he wont' have to break them up that far.

LOL, No kidding!!!! Just nice to have some pics of the carbs exploded like that. For such little buggers they are quite complicated. I usually change the mains directly through the plug at the bottom of the bowl. Calm nerves and a good use of toothpick is required LOL.

LOL, exactly! If you have an extra set of hands you don't even need to drain the float bowls!

Done that! I was lazy at the time and left it in there. Just put an extra 152.5 in. :)

Okay, got all the pics I need. Now just need to put pics on my photobucket site and post it here!

I could probly get the bike to omaha if the weather here in Nebraska didnt Suck!! and it didnt snow every weekend!!

as for the PAJ2's the ones i took out were 165's. i put in MK170. The bike now hates the choke and will die if slightly applied on cold start up. also the DJ needles i took out were set to the 3rd notch from the top. im not for sure what size mains are i the bike. the orginal owner told me he thought it needed one size bigger jets. The needles arent that hard to install nor the springs (as compared to taking the IRS out of a 06 GTO and reinstalling one). Im not really sure how someone could mess that up but i guess it could be possible. still open to all suggestions. Really dont want to pull the carbs off since i have no way to resync them without taking them too my BOGUS Yamaha dealer and having them think it Kawasaki again. Then rolling me 145 bones to resync!!

Holy crap! Don't go back there, for sure. To only do the sync take me 15 minutes tops. It would be shorter but I like hearing the bike run!

I seem to turn every 15 minute job into an hour that way!

well i took out the shim in (washer) in the needles and it helped A TON!!!! the bike will now pull the front tire off the ground when WOT under 10mph. (or light the rear up threw 1st) but im still encountering a slight studder after running to redline in 1st then shifting to 2nd. Right after i shift it stall for about 2-300 rpm. Max Rider what do i try next?!? Seafoam the Carbs? or c what jets are in the inside?

well i went to my LOVELY Yamaha Dealer and Got ScREWED aGIAN 285 bucks for a service and rear tire install (ME880). plus they didnt know what the correct part number was on yamaha VMAx MAINs. I i have them with the receit and the part number is 18-4736 for stock Mikuni 150 Mains. Does anyone know if that is the correct part number?

Stock are Mikuni 152.5's but I think the 150's will work better anyway.

$285 Doesn't sound too bad. I paid $212 for just a rear tire install. ME880.
Thing that pissed me Off Today though. I was looking closer at the tire today, and it seems they decided to put a 150/90/15 on it, instead of the the 170/80/15 I ordered!
I was happy when I thought I had the 170 on there, but now I'm not. So Now I will not be going back to Cycle World of Daytona. Unless they come up with a Big Effin Discount! :bang head::bang head::bang head:

I must be lucky..Every Yamaha dealership I have been to about the Vmax knows them like the back of their hand. Right down to the carbs! The 1 here in SoiuxFalls and Umotors in Fargo both give me discounts and help when I have questions about my Max.

Tahoe, does Ted Lancaster still work at the Yamaha dealer in Sioux Falls?
