Went out to the garage and looked at it. Then I decided to cut my riding season a month short. I'm going to go out for a ride and get some fall videos then when I come home, I'm going to tear it apart.

I'm going at it this route cause there is quite a few things that is going to be done to it and school gets priority. So while school is just starting and the work load is reasonable, I'm going to get everything for the paint prepped and hopefully shoot some paint on Sunday. Then the following week, the engine covers come off along with the intake manifold.

The swingarm will be the next thing on the list. I'm on the fence about the 6" stretch on the other arm I have, or go with a Goldwing single sided unit. I know it will have to be flipped upside down, so there is filling the gear lube issue and shock relocation, but I think it might work.

HAHAHA, I bought my wife her own damn bike so I could ride solo! :) Was that wrong of me?
Not wrong, just misguided.
Now when you ride solo you will be too busy chacking your mirror to see where the hell she has got to to enjoy the ride!

i'll be patiently watching this!
Late reply on my part, but yes the oil (or at least the pressure from the oil) makes its way to the gauge. Works great!
gotcha. thnx!

I'm not going to do the upper gauge thing anymore. I bought a new speedo/tach/Fuel/Warning light unit. It's similar to the Koso's. We'll see how it works.

Around $80 w/shipping included, here.

I'm going to have to do some measuring against my other SA to see if it is doable. If it's out of my range, I'm just going to go back and stretch the stocker arm. One thing my dad brought up last night was how will the bike behave under a nitrous run with the swingarm.

WOW KJ this looks awesome, at a great price too! Let us know how it works out..

Will do,
Sean has a friend that ordered one too. So between the two of us, there will be information :)
I'm now thinking of getting another fuel tank to play with and install a fuel sensor so that I can take advantage of the gauge's fuel meter.

From the dimensions, It looks to be a nice compact unit, that will fit nicely on the bike.

Came home from class and my new gauges were in the mailbox.
I'm putting my old Autometer, oil press and water temp gauge on the A pillar in my truck and the Volt meter in my dash.
I found it less expensive to go with a triple gauge kit and just disassemble it. Otherwise, these particular gauges run about $17 each. $23 is a lot better than $51 :clapping:

The new sunpro gauges will go in the normal instrument cowel. These are pretty sweet. They are 1.5" (1 3/4" w/bezel), lighted, and IMO look pretty decent. So there will be plenty of room for adding two trouble lights, that aren't going to be wired to the new speedo/tach. Plus they have that nice black face that matches the new speedo :biglaugh:

You can see the size difference and the room that it will have for the additional lights.

$23 incl shipping here for the black face
There is also white faced gauges too.

Those look sweet KJ! Where are you sourcing the OP line from? I may need a winter projet as well.

I tore into my 85 engine today, I mean to the nut and bolt. I knew there was an issue, because the po said he herd a knocking sound after switching to synthetic oil, and shut down,
biglaugh.gif
. I'll say there was a knock. My first clue was the inner oil filter housing attached to the case welded straight across at about the half way mark. #4 is the only bearing that didn't spin...lol. I'm thinking he cliped something and kept riding with no oil pressure. Then had the housing welded and went for another ride (that's when he tried to fix it with synthetic oil). The lower thrust surfaces are scored and the crank is a door stopper now. The piston skirts are scored prob. from fragments in the oil that was left after it pumped out everything in the pan. Anyway, the good part, the surprise was the undercut transmisssion with newer gears.I was hoping for this because I got a box of gears with an 85 2nd gear set-all junk.
The cams are like new, and the heads? we'll see. Their was about 20k on the motor I was told, but I'm skeptical because of the lack of TOTAL diclosure .The bike was a one owner. I'm glad I didn't pay alot. I also got another engine with the bike that I'm told has 21k on it. I'm gong to see if I can find out tonight who did the undercut transmission/updated gears. I hope it was Sean or PCW.

Keep in mind the stock gears are undercut. We just increase the angle and also precision cut the gears to be a better match when compared to the production gears.

It looks like your on the right track. Good prep. Clean is the key. I like to wipe with solvent, blow dry, then outgas at cure temps, then coat stuff a little hot, then straight to the oven before dust finds the part. Not the only method though.

Night before last my '01 wouldn't start after work. After attempting to jump it with cables way too wide to hit the terminal w/out arcing on the frame rail, I discovered the positive terminal was loose. After a quick turn of the Leatherman, fired right up and on my way home.
"Just to be safe" however, I removed the battery, topped off the acid and put it on the tender overnight. Cranks a lot stronger now.

Me and this little green Tinkerbell are tearing down the Archangel. I figured I'm not going to use the faring from the old drag bike so I tossed it outside, when something pretty damn cool happened. I'll post the picture and what happened later when I finish up and take a shower.
