The clutch would sometimes firm up and do a lot of hard shifting and neutral was impossible to find. I replaced the fluid from 2006 and bled the system out. It's much better now :)

Side note - anybody have any tips for avoiding splash from the reservoir? I can't seem to do this or brakes without breaking out the touch up paint shortly after, no matter how quick I am with the rags.

I just pour real slow, I've seen others use a small funnel. They just put the end flat against the m/c and pour in the funnel. Then they slowly lift the funnel to allow the fluid to be more controlled when they lift the funnel.

I got the crown cover all cut up and the turn signal mounts gone. It will lay just fine with the dual headlights.

Next it will be time to to the face and the body of the mount.

Other than more cleaning and polishing, I wired in a battery tender connection. I put the end of the connector by the fuel filler for easy access, although it has occurred to me that this may not be the safest spot. I will exercise a lot of care when fueling and likewise, when hooking up the battery tender. I'd be interested to know where others are putting the connector.

I ran mine near the bundle of wiring near the middle gear cover.

I put mine on the left frame in the back of the scoop area. a 3-5 amp fuse within a few inches of the positive post protects the circuit well. I wired mine to the starter relay, because the battery post already had a couple of other aux. circuits on it. I have a First Gear plug for heated clothing, and a 12 volt recepticle near the key switch. I'm thinking the 12 volt recepticle could be used to connect a trickle charger and get rid of one circuit.

Mine runs similar to yours. Its on the right side though. The wiring is long enough that it just reaches under the passenger seat.

That's what I did, I put a cigarette lighter under the passenger seat and went and bought a male plug and wired it to my tender...

Mine in run similarly to yours as well. 'cept it's on the right hand side. I just pull it out and close the middle section, before it gets plugged in and covered up for the winter.

I yanked the motor out of my 85 today. I was wondering as I did it, how do they get these in without dinging anything up? I think pulling the swingarm would make life easier. I now have an 85 in a lot of piles...lol

Pulling carbs, coolant hose to rear cylinder head, output shaft, and swingarm make it much easier

Yea, all by myself, but I used a motorcycle jack (Thanks again to Dannymax) and didn't have to lift anything. It willl go faster next time. All the bleeding has stopped too.

Thanks Mike for the reply.

I watched my odometer tick over 99,999.9 kilometers :clapping: Still running strong :eusa_dance:

One good suggestion along with Mikes, thanks, is to hang the engine. I think going in will be easier that way. Thanks to Rusty for that one. The motor is a little awkward to handel on a floor jack. But, the motorcycle jack with some blocking worked like a charm.
Now I have 2 engines to play with and access their condition. I'm hoping I can get a runner between the two. More to follow.....

Installed the Venture pumpkin today and went for a test ride. So far I've got to say I really like it. The launch is still great. . The rpms are down a little over 500 at 75mph. It's a keeper.

Rode mine to work again, another 230 miles on the clock and a shitload more bugs on everything. Freezing this morning in the low 50s. Well worth the ride home in the mid 70s. Confirmed my suspision that comfort ends at exactly an hour and a half on the stock seat. Time to start looking for some seat foam and picking staples. Gonna do it again tomorrow. Time is running out up here.
8000 miles on it sense I got it just before fathers day. Been a joy, even through the sore ***. I hear my starter clutch telling me it needs attention every so often on hot starts, hopefully it can wait till the season is over. I also hope that the knock at idle is nothing more than said starter clutch. Momma is gonna be pissed if I need to dump too much cash into my new-to-me dream bike.

Looked at it, then went for a nice 33*f ride.
I love my jacket, I was toasty all the way. When I got it back home, I thought about getting an early jump on tearing it down. But, I'm going to hold off my decision until this weekend.

Worked on my new instrument pod. Not liking it. I may go in a different direction.

Checked on my video, it's not doing too bad on the hit counts. :biglaugh: Thanks to those who watched it.
