Rode it outside of a 15 mile radius from my house since entirely rebuilding everything but the final drive and engine.
Falling in love with it all over again.

Went the Wichita mountains/Medicine park to see how the suspension upgrades went. The bike feels way better. On one curve to the right, I actually scuffed the toe of my right boot. To me that means that I have a pretty good lean going on, and the bike felt VERY stable.

Glad to hear it !

Changed the steering bearings and front wheels bearings. Steering is a lot smoother.

Also received the rear 17" wheel and changed the bearings. But have a while before the current tires are used up and can switch over to the radial.

I started on the biggest part of "fixing" the front end. However I'm having one hell of a time getting the old nasty lower bearing off the yzf750 stem Sean sent me. Looks like I'm gonna have to call the wizard for some pointers later.

Destroy the bearing and get it to just the race. Then cut the race with a dremil or cutoff wheel/dotco. Some nicks in the stem will be ok. We weld a little bead on the race and then quickly knock it off while it's still hot and it comes right off.

Fired the 85 up that I bought. It sounded good for the little I ran it. I was having a hard time keeping it primed. I believe its sucking air. I am ordering all new fuel lines for it tonight or in the morning.

I went up one position on the needles, to the second from the blunt end. Running 160 mains from Morleys jet kit. Seems to be running less rich now and more responsive.

Also, changed the steering and front wheel bearings. Handling is much improved.

Once I run through the rear tire, will switch over to the radial wheel I picked up via the forum. Might need a few good burnouts.

Removed rear tire, found the splines totally dry, since bike has low miles I decided to leave bearings in for now, I used my favorite red grease from Texas Refineries and pushed in as much as I could on the sealed right hand side bearing, the left side open one was easy to repack, then I cleaned both the hub splines and the differential side, sprayed several coats of a moly based open gear lubricant, it dries to a nice thick paste that's very difficult to remove, made sure the washer was in place and the seals had their grease and put it all back together. Has a 170 Metzler tire on the rear, no issue of rubbing it appears, hopefully not any when I install a pair of new Shinko tires later on.

It's from Bowmans, called PennPlex open gear and 5th wheel plate lube. Industrial supply shops should have it, I used it on my fleet of tractors on the 5th wheel plates and the open gear drives at a concrete batch plant, I've never seen anything else like it at any parts store, it sprays on like a tarry paste, looks like an undercoat, I've been using it on all my bikes that have splined drives, the Honda CX bikes, the Yamaha Ventures, and the Goldwings . In my honest opinion it's the best lubricant for that purpose, that stuff stays on incredibly well, takes brake cleaner to remove it.
I think you can order it either through Bowmans or Graingers.

Finished the valve adjustment and got the bike running. NaughtyG's guide for valve adjustment was very helpful. The only thing I did differently was that I didn't remove the v-boost servo motor but instead I released the cable from servo and got enough room for valve cover to come out. Still got some problems with throttle not closing properly, but I still have few weeks before the season starts.

Squirt some wd40 into your cables and check the one bracket on your carb rack that holds one of the cables, itll bend sometimes during removal/cleaning/installation and not be noticed. Ive had it happen and it drove me nuts til i found that that was the cause of my troubles.
