I know your pain. Everyone I ride with gets at least 50 more miles to the tank, the fact I have to fill up right over 100 each tank has become a running joke.

I don't mind stopping every 100 miles. I can't seem to sit comfortably on this bike for any longer than that. Even with a cut down seat and some sliders to put my feet on, it becomes tireseome. I did a bit over 400 miles in a day last week. On the way home, I was looking forward to my fuel stops.
 
Thanks for your help, I will check this out. I sold the FJ1200 when I was in Panama earlier this year. I found the FJ to handle a lot better but the VMax has always been my dream bike and you would not believe how popular it is here in Mexico. They just love it. Even my die-hard Harley friends in the Santa Muertes can´t resist checking it out whenever they see it. There are not too many here. I wish the VMax had a bigger tank, it can be a pain in the ass stopping so much.

The Max was my very first dream bike as well.

Removed the suspected duff battery and found it's quite badly bulging.

Is there any chance that a bad charging system could have caused this (too much current?) or just the age of the battery? Either way, a new one is on its way. I had planned on testing it with my charger, but as it's visibly damaged devoid it was definitely time to junk it.

Well, check the output once you get the new battery, see what's being fed to the battery from the R/R. Some guys w/bad R/R's have seen voltages in the 17-18 V range which is enough to destroy the battery. Correct voltage output is 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. So, if you're getting >15 V, change the R/R for a MOSFET-style one. (Spec from the Yamaha factory manual)
 
Picked up a set of Hindle big pipes and can. It has the usual crushed pipe. I know a saw a list here somewhere but cant seem to find it now. Do I loose the center stand with these pipes? Will work on fixing that and also a set of wheels and radials from a member here. Anybody with these pipes. what do you have for jetting and air cleaner? Is Sean's converted air box better than the pods?
 
Any jetting you want to use. No jet kit, stage seven (pods), or our kit. Don't sweat the flat pipes too much until you see how it runs. You should be able to keep the centerstand though the bar on the left side will look dumb sticking out there with no muffler on that side. At least you don't have to cut the tabs and could remove it for riding and install for service.

My last RR went bad and started pushing 20v+ through the electrical system; fried the battery and starter relay. Too much is DEFINITELY a bad thing.

Started the bike on the jack stands to see how far back into these carbs I gotta go (don't ask). Looked down to see the thing pumping oil out onto the left pipe. Whole middle gear cover is dry. Drip on bottom clutch slave bolt. Oily oil pan. I'm gonna retorque all the oil pan bolts tomorrow and see what's up. It better be from when I put the new little fuel vent hose pigtail on that one pan bolt. I'm pretty sure that's the last time I had it out on the road and there were NO LEAKS!!!

This is super frustrating! I'm pretty sure my fuel pump is what's causing all the carb problems. Those little metal crosshairs that hold the rubber flappers rust so fast with this shitty gas. Adding a second filter this weekend.

I also heard from the guy making my spacers that he's been diagnosed with lung cancer and won't be able to finish those. That sucks way more for him than it does for me. He's a nice guy and has already lost his lower leg to some sort of cancer he had in his ankle a few years ago... And he's only 26.
 
After being stalled for exactly forever and a day, I got my USD forks in the mail yesterday. Spent the last two evenings test fitting everything before I yank off the front end and send the aluminum triple tree to get coated. Man it felt good to roll it around the shop and sit on it without worrying about it falling off the stands.

Blurr, your bike is like a dream for me. Awesome! What tail light is that?

On my own bikes I polished some parts, searched for bolts I lost or needed to replace, put in the new starter solenoid, and put all the metal parts on the front end of the project bike.
 
Very nice Blurr! We went on a 160 mile ride yesterday, and the weather was perfect! Got 42mpg with the wife on the back. :)
 
Looking great so far! We'll get that new Hayabusa conversion triples sorted out and then maybe we can finally start offering them up to the masses (hopefully a hell of a lot quicker then it took to get the first one made).

That would be great Sean! I've been waiting three months for an inverted front end that I ordered to show up and still nothing.........not even the sound of crickets............

Your bike looks great. Where did you get the belly pan? I'm looking around to see what I can find. Does anyone know of someone who sells them in the US?
 
Search 'wild hair vmax'. Pan is imported from Germany via New Mexico. Not from the same source as Boxenstopp though. 126a under belly pans.
