When the site seems slow

Indeed sometimes the site won't load at all or half-way through browsing returns a 'database error'.

It never lasts more than a few hours though, and usually works fine again a little later. :confused2:

earlier today it was down completely. not sure why.

Interesting... the host is suppose to inform me of any down time. I'll have to see if I can access the server logs.

I concur with Garrett - also noticed the downtime at the same time he did. Site would simply not load.

+1 to no site yesterday morning/early afternoon. I could not even get the home page to load.

+1 to database error every so often. I will be going through "todays posts" and all of a sudden that will popup. Might last a couple minutes, might last a couple hrs. Last time was a couple hrs

OK, I had database error for more then 3 hours toady between 15.00 and 18.00.
Now im in Swiss with completly diffrent internet provider so most defo someting is not right here.

Database error is generally from the server side. I'm currently working with the forum host on switching the site to their new line of servers.

I also could not get to the site most of this morning until about 2:25 p.m. e.s.t. It did ask me if I wanted to send a message to you / webmaster / owner of the site / whatever , and I checked yes.

The work to start porting the forum over to a new server is on Jan 12th. The forum will run on both servers to make sure the new one runs smoothly. At some point I will have to close the forum for a few hours so that I can update the newer forum with the latest posts. Hopefully this should fix the above issues.

I'm waiting to hear back on that one as both my sites were down and only 1 was getting moved. I think the issue was with their database server.

I had a period yesterday the connnection was slow. I check my other computer when this happens. Thank God for hand me down lap tops. My daughter gives me the hand me downs. It's a good deal since I bought them in the 1st place, then see them again when they break.

Sometimes my desktop gets slow from lack of maintenence. Only so much memory to go around. Restarts solve most memory problems. How much is runnning in the back ground, tsp programs and such. It's like dragging cement blocks with your bike.

Get yourself a Total Commander (only if you are running on WIN) for better maintance and try to not put anything on desktop. Also turn off all special effects like window animation etc(again if usin WIN).
Make the life much easier.
