That's an awesome bike too BTW, I'd love to ride they into a crowd of CBX purists and see them grab their chests and stroke out!!

He said it's 'all-Harley' except for the engine. I didn't look at it close-enough to see if it's actually a frame for a H-D that he modified, but if I understood him correctly, he built it. He has a heavy accent. I think he's from Georgia and it's hard to understand him.

I agree, that build would cause widespread apoplexy and "the vapors" among the people who take CBX's way-too-seriously.

My buddy bought an ex-cop car, plain white Crown Vic Interceptor with the graphics and light bar removed, for the express purpose of getting through traffic in a hurry. It was also dirt cheap. New plugs, new injectors, general tune up and it runs like new with almost 200k miles.

And the thing is, it works. A quick flash of the headlights and cars just sail out of the way. It still has the spotlight on the A pillar which is kind of a neat feature to have.

Now in NY the same effect is had by people who drive black Tahoe's, since that seems to be the new state trooper vehicle of choice. Used to rarely ever see SUV cop cars, but now they're just as common if not moreso than the sedans.

Lot of that here too, same with ******** riding white baggers wearing white helmets.

Unlike your buddy tho most of the ones I see like to pace traffic at the speed limit and cock block several lanes of freeway as every one eases up on them thinking its a cop and then figures out its just sone ******* with a desire for enjoying a little schadenfreude

When I had my BMW R100RT, I painted the fairing candy apple red metallic & the tank & fenders were stock pearlescent white. It had the stock high & wide plexi windshield and the stock black rectangular saddlebags, the best luggage I ever had, absolutely water-tight & secure, and removable in < 10 seconds, but lockable (and that includes unlocking them).

After I got the bike painted, I noticed that sometimes on the expressway, the I-95 Miami FL corridor, where many men drive like aXXholes and the women try to outdo them, I would be motoring-along, and it was like Moses at the Red Sea. I would be closing on somebody, and suddenly they would pull to the right and slow-down. "Gee, thanks!" I would think, and keep on my trip, not realizing until it happened repeatedly that they saw someone in their rear-view mirror about to raise their insurance rates for a moving violation. But, I sold the bike because I liked riding my VMax so-much. That luggage sure was handy though. I've kept my eye out for a set of them, thinking I might adapt them to the VMax. I've passed on some raggedy Krausers, but don't want to spend the $500+ you have to spend for a decent set w/brackets I might be able to carve-up.

Just remembered a story about CBX's. My friend and I bought two exactly alike 1980 CBX's. The only difference was he had the stock exhaust and I had the 6 into 2 Jardine system (which sounded MUCH better. :biglaugh:)

We both were the same size and weight. We must have raced them dozens of times from standing start to roll-ons at various speed and gear combinations. Every race I would pull him no matter what the conditions. But if we went to top end he would eventually pass with about 2 mph greater top end. Mine would do 140 and his 142 with us laid over the tank. It seems the Jardines helped mid range at the expense of top end. Now if I had jetted that might have changed but who wants to mess with 6 carbs!!! Just syncing them with my old mercury 4 tube tool was a bitch. :biglaugh:

Another fun maintenance item was valve adjustment.... :bang head:

At least he is going custom, the only way to go with these IMHO. The CBX world is ruled by a bunch or rich, arrogant pricks who have basically priced the bikes out of the reach of most average Joes, it's really sickening. There are two vendors down south who have been buying up parts for years and they set the market place, and they absolutely RAPE you for anything CBX, it's absolutely rediculous. Take the average VMAX part and multiply it by a scale of 5 to 10, no kidding. 1000-1500 dollars for a good fuel tank, 400-500 for a seat, 500 bucks for a set of guages, 2000+ for an original exhaust if you can find one, a hundred bucks for grips, mirrors, etc.......it's an absolute travesty. The best part is to watch these 2 "vendors" get on the forums and play friendly with everyone, all in the while they are raping them in the a$$ for parting and laughing behind their backs, all the way to the bank. I restored ONE, and I will never restore another one, and I sold it before I moved from Texas. There is no commaraderie, just a bunch of rich, old farts sitting around looking at their bikes and making fun of the unfortunate ones that can't afford them any longer. I got kicked off one of the main forums for speaking my mind about this travesty, they can't stand the truth. You have no idea how much better the VMAX, V65, even the Eliminator forums are until you experience something like that. We've got it made over here!!!!!

My ass hurts just reading those prices!
