    Front fork check

A couple of years ago my 2009 started leaking fluid from both sides. I had them fixed at a shop. Now I have a side that has leaked again. I'm trying to clean the seal now without disassembly but is there any way to check fluid capacity without taking it apart? So far I'm not a fan of the...

    Quiet exhausts

Does anyone know which aftermarket pipes are the most quiet? I want HP gains for drag racing with minimal noise. So I think I need to get an x-pipe equivalent but I don't want anythig that actually strives for loudness.

top speed indicated vs trap speed

Has anyone defined their speed limiter with a trap speed? In the quarter mile, my trap speeds have consistently plateaued now around 127mph. I know the indicated speed is exagerrated and it was indicating 130's already when my trap speed were 120ish, so now I wonder if I'm being limited by the...

    Drag race video

I hooked up the camera again for the drag strip. The runs are against a GSXR 600, an unknown bike, then GSXR 1100 (overbored to 1200 and running a slick), and a new 2009 GSXR 1000. The slick gave the 1100 a real advantage through 1st gear. The new gixxer hauls ass against me. In the first two...

    New drag race video

This was my third time out and I mounted the camera. The second time I ran, the starting-line dude walked around it and asked if it was turbocharged. Two runs were almost identical, ET 11.7 seconds at 123ish with RT 0.66 twice. My 60 foot ET is around 2 seconds. I am at 4000' elevation and...

    New York Times Vmax article

Maybe I missed this but it's new to me, a review of the 2009 dated April 16, 2009: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/automobiles/autoreviews/19vmax.html?_r=1&pagewanted=1

    Drag racing experience

I took the Vmax to the strip last night. I ran my old Vmax years ago once in Houston, but there wasn't a full tree and that is a major hangup right now. Best run was 12.29 at 118.85 but that was also my worst reaction time at 1.131. It was about 84 degrees, at 4000ft elevation, so using a...

    Yamaha tail pack

I think Yamaha has a typo on their site so I don't know the expanded size of the taipack. Here's the quote: "A concealed expansion joint allows the capacity to increase from 325 cubic inches to 450 cubic inches. "...

    BarEnder helmet locks install

On the advice of another 2009 Vmax owner I bought a set of two BarEnder helmet locks, about $100. The version that fits the Vmax is the 6mm one. http://www.barender.com/media.htm They are a very quick install, replace the stock bar-ends with slightly heavier (220 gm vs 164 gm) cylindrical...

    More horsepower than a Humvee!

I'm watching a Military Channel show on the Humvee and they claim 190 horsepower from the deisel engine, less than the "heavy" 2009 Vmax! I know the Humvee's probably got a couple dozen times the torque, but that's still an amazing comparison. I'm going to hop on the bike now, can't resist.

    Gas cap replacement

Maybe all gas caps are the same, I don't know, but is there a non-locking alternative? I'm trying to streamline gas stops because I need to make them too often, which is about every 60 miles if I don't want to see a warning light or have the display reset itself.

    Vmax Guru's race ECU

I've been watching for this, Vmax Guru got the race ECU and dyno'd it today. So far it doesn't look like it's the 240hp some were hoping for, just a speed delimiter: http://www.vmaxguru.com/Tech/Gen2/Pages/Race%20ECU/Race_ECU.bmp

    Data plate arrived

I received the "special" data plates and display today by UPS. It's a brushed aluminum display stand and two data plates, with black print. It has a "number coinciding with the sequence of your original deposit," and is # 0196. My claim number was 261444, and I got the bike around Dec 10th...

    Tractor mode

I discovered a cool feature of the 2009. I was playing around with its torque, and while decelerating in 1st gear I never pulled in the clutch. Instead of bogging and dying, when it hit the 1k rpm idle mark it felt like a slow moving tractor took over, and I just putt-putted up to the light...

    Luggage options?

I can not get a bag to fit onto the rear seat. I was surprised to find my small magnetic tank bag works on the airbox cover. I thought it was plastic at first. I don't like riding with a backpack. The manual diagrams 4 luggage anchors but it looks like two of those are thin metallic things...

    Vmaxlessness

My Vmax, #444, is in shipping limbo. It was picked up in Dallas, TX on Dec 2nd, with a scheduled delivery Dec 4th, but never showed up here in El Paso, TX. I found a tracking number from the dealer’s bill of lading, and it’s tracking status (Roadway Express) hasn’t changed for a week. So I have...
