LOL, nice! On a much happier and positive note, I just received word that my new Max will be delivered sometime in February where it will then sit in my garage for another 2 months until the snow melts.....oh wait, supposed to stay positive here. I'm excited and can hardly wait!!:eusa_dance:

I thought we were comparing apples to apples, pro rider to pro rider, Max vs Busa? What person can't change out motor oil? Isn't that like changing fuel octaine?

I can see some people want their heads in the sand, it's cool.

my head is in reality. I basicly live at the drag strip so I do not need to read or watch TV ONLY for my info. Just watched stock hyabusa( I actualy do not know if it was stock could be purposly made slower)running 10.7's 2 weeks ago. You guy's are going to have to shot him he will kill your ego/s lol

btw how can we compare apples to apples the numbers for the Vmax were taken over a phone conversation from a un verified source? with absolutly no real info? how do you like those apples lol

Hi guys! I'm a newbie here and have been waiting on the arrival of the new V-Max with MUCH interest. I'm a new owner of a 89 V-Max(though i've wanted one since 85!). I don't really know what it is about the bike, but i LOVE IT! This is saying alot due to my previous bikes. I'm not brand loyal and like some of all brands. I have a good deal of experiance dragracing bikes and i'm really curious as to how the new Max will perform. With the kinda hp/tq and wheelbase it has, it should be a real performer. Of course, the rider will dictate most of what its capable of. I hope someone does it justice(i'm sure some will!) The biggest thing it has against it is weight. Every 22-25lbs generally adds .1 sec/2mph in the 1/4mi. It usually takes roughly 10rwhp to pickup 2mph in the 1/4. That being said, a bike weighing 100lbs more than an otherwise identical bike would run roughly .4sec/8mph slower. Again, there are factors that can change this, but i as well as others have found this to be a pretty reliable rule of thumb. I'm no lightweight at 200lbs suited, so i really pay attention to weight and its affects(when running these lightweight jockeys!, i'm at a BIG dissadvantage!). Though the new V-Max has an AWESOME motor, its weight may prove to hamper it when compared to other bikes with hp in the ball park but much less weight. Does this make it less awesome??? Not hardly. Strap some weight on the other bikes and then compare APPLES to APPLES!(Don't let them strap all the weight to the front or lower part of bike though! This would benifit them more than hurt!)
BTW, the Busa's/14's that are running mid-low 9's are not stone stk. They have been been lowered(front/rear) at the very least. This REALLY affects how a bike can 60ft!
FWIW, i've personally ridden a STONE STK(stk height, stk exhaust, stk gearing, stk everything including stickers/reflectors) 04 Busa to a 9.95@ 141mph(bike had 119mi on it). I strapped and lowered the bike, went -1 tooth on front sprocket and added a sticky street tire.( I also removed the stk cans at the track). This(along with many, many passes) allowed me to hit a 9.48 @ 144mph. I've also ridden a 06 ZX-14 to a best pass of 8.99 @ 150mph. That bike had a stk motor, but was stretched/lowered, piped, tuned(PCIII) and was running oxygenated fuel. Smaller guys in better air have run better, but not by much.
On another note, i see the stk limiter on the new V-Max hurting serious efforts at the track. Though, i do think the aftermarket will have a cure for that very quickly!
My post is not intended to bash the V-Max. I LOVE the new bike. Anyone that compares it to something else needs to compare EVERYTHING, most of all WEIGHT! Do that and others will be shocked at what it does with that much weight, as well as be shocked at what theirs WONT!

Well when you get it, strap it into a trailer or truck, and get your butt down to Florida for Bike Week.
We ride all year long down here in FLA!!! :punk:

I'm done, you and your blindingly loyalty to Yamaha isn't going to see the obvious in numbers alone. Those guys running 9 flat on a stock 'Busa are in a world of hurt by a bike with the same rwhp weighing 150+lbs more. Hahaha

I get that it's a VMax forum, I owned one, I still talk to a few people on here face to face. I am not however and never have been dyed in the wool (insert brand here) however open to the world of physics and simple things like HP/Weight ratios, weight transfer, aerodynamics, which have the Max comming in second to a lot of bikes. Thus it's not going to be the fastest motorcycle, I'll place bets if you'd like. Keep them small though I'm a poor kid. ;)

eh hem ! Poor kids don't own one of these ...

I hang out over there, too, as I'm still a huge Max fan and probably will own one at some point. However, that mentality just gets under my skin. I'll probably get the boot for not locking step with the lemmings, though.

So im a lemming now too?

Your on a vmax fan site and you call vmax lovers lemmings?

Give your head a shake...

All I can say is I have respect for the Busa's, they are quick and not bad looking. I will also say that I'm a die hard Vmax'er and you put a Busa and a new Max side by side - I will always choose the Max. Hell, I put my money down on a new Max before I even saw or heard any of these articles or videos - they just made me that much more proud of my decision. There is a lot of talk about "the real world" and "pro" riding skills and the difference in performance between them. Much talk of "average Joe" in here also. I'd say pretty much the majority of the members here are "average Joe", especially the Busa worshippers. I wouldn't spit out numbers of how your bike is better than mine - just remember, you may be that "average Joe"!!

This whole thread can be summed up like this:

"I think the new vmax is pretty cool and may actually be one of the fastest bikes in the quarter.."

"no its not and your an idiot for thinking that because its too heavy and has a shaft drive"

"ya but what about this article and that article and all these storys"

"all crap"

"well the old bike had quite a reputation and this one is faster"

"the old one is crap too and all those great times it ran are ******** tweaked bikes with superior riders"

"??....is this really the VMAX Forums or is this the Vmax Denial Site"

The busa is a good dragger because of the engine...it was developed to make big speed (200mph) not drag race... people used that power and developed the traction solutions to make it so.
The vmax is a purpose built dragger...its not built ot do top speed runs or handle the curves in the way that the busa does..... It is HARD to launch a stock busa quickly for fear of looping it due to a rear suspension designed for high speed handleing... The max has alway been easier to launch all the way back to 1985 when peewee made coments suggeting that.

There are plenty of comments in the news now sugesting the new one launches harder and easier than any bike out there.... you would thing that would be something vmax supporters would get xcitied about.... ya we dont know for sure yet..... but on the other hand whats the point of denying it without evidence and slamming the bike here ?

ok cool...interesting....now lets ask ourselves a few questions based on the info..

The max has 200hp and a rumored 240hp if in race mode.... the speed limiter is set to 147.... if those et's above are right and the bike moves well off the line are we not in the ball park to break 9 seconds? (similar terminal velocities would suggest that, or at least suggest the engineers were thinking that, ells why not limit the bike to 150 even)

second...we have heard now about a 9.43 pass....if that was a stock bike best attempt then we could begin to see our guesses are correct....bike has the power, launches well (like a streatched bike) and is in the running...

I've never been to a track, all I do is magazine race. Pfft ya got me.

The VMax is the quintesential motorcycle for all things race oriented. Better?

RJ - No need to get it twisted, I owned a damn VMax and will again. Why the hostility when I put down physical numbers on a bike and explain why I don't think the same way you do?

I don't doubt a 9 sec pass at all. In fact, i fully expect more "average Joes" to run 9's on one than you would find on Busa's or 14's. This is due to the tq the motor should make and most importantly the long wheelbase(this is the reason the older V-Max could launch well sitting at 63" wheelbase). These two will make it MUCH easier for anyone to launch than the much shorter/less torquier(sounds funny saying that!) sportbikes.
The times i posted are indeed correct and i have time slips. Ran the 8 sec pass on the 14 at last years PMRA event infront of quite a few. BTW, i used them for somewhat of a reference as to what those bikes are capable of only.
What is the new V-Max's wheelbase supposed to be? Would absolutely LOVE to throw a leg over one!

Brand loyalty has nothin to do with it.... if anything this is a club for people who like one particular model of muscle bike....

the world of physics eh? well lets see what a 150 pound disadvantage REALLY means shall we? ....according to the handy quartermile calculator....a 650 pound, 200hp bike should do: [email protected]
750 pound, 200hp [email protected]

Thats all things being equal.... now lets look at those 3 tenths... 3 tenths of a second.... can they be made up for in better launch? (bike comes stock with extended swing arm and better weight distribution for traction ).... so from a pure physics point of view, does it seem so bloody unreasonable the bike could be a match for the busa?

Ever run it at the track? Details please!

Details on? :D

The 'Busa I just picked up, still sorting out some bugs and the junk Suzuki transmissions they put in these bikes.

The VMax never made it to the track, it was more of my power cruiser of sorts. Lay'd down 122 rwhp and 77rwtq, I miss it bad. My father in law has it now.

The Dart I never got running. I did however get floors put in, relocated the rear springs, Dana 60 with 35 spline axles, spool disc brakes all around etc and got rid of it all due to life happening.

I started going back to school last week at the age of 26 so funding has been down as of late.

I'm not debating any more. You choose to say one bike can make things up but the other is the constant which is a flawed way to look at things. I'm not saying a new VMax won't beat a Busa at the track as riders have everything to do with it. What do you run at the track on yours? Are you getting 10.8's out of a stocker? Get my point?

I am saying all things equal the VMax won't beat a new Busa or 14 or probably any of the new liter bikes coming out from any of the 4 Jap models.

Oops, sorry...was refering to the Busa. Junk tranny? Have seen very few torn up. Many, many 8 second stretched bikes with stock trannies. Foot shifted mine close to 1000 passes(stk, stk w/ 60hp dry nitrous shot, stk w/ turbo(252rwhp/160rwtq)). Not saying one can't have problems, but from what i've seen they are pretty tough...for stk.
I FULLY understand the lack of funding part!

I'm prolly getting rid of my current 03 GSXR1K in an effort to keep my V-Max(and get the USD and wider rear wheel on it!). This old 89 Max has pressence! Something most other bikes don't. Really like it!

Well the 1st Gen 'Busa's are known for second gear issues. I have a back cut trans arriving tomorrow for the bike. I can ride it but WOT in 2nd the bike skips once or twice due to the dogs rounding. Back cutting them cures this, I also have billet shift forks for it to.

Mine's a 99, right now the 'Busa is on a stock MAP, full Yosh system, large air box mod, 6" stretch, 190 shinko, lowered 2" in the back, and a strap up front. With a weak fuel pump (it crapped out on me the next day or two after the dyno) on what I've been told is a conservative dyno the bike put down 156/96. Same dyno had an 06 ZX14 piped, PCIII, air box mods etc lay down 162 to give you a comparo.

The PCIII is coming over the winter as well as a 60 dry hit and either a sidewinder or the Brock's Megaphone or Alien Head. I want to get the air shift on too. I walk around at 265lbs so if I can get the bike in the low 9's I'll be happy on that set up. Should be around 220-230 rwhp next spring.

ya im tired of this too...
But i was saying that the two bikes, same power, but one better launcher the other lighter weight is the way i see the "tale of the tape" as they say in boxing..... and in that way, they may measure up....
