With the new pipe

http://www.facebook.com/v/1209552473273

Idle pretty quiet, just a deep tone.
But very nice improvement when accelerating.

I run it with a stage 1, very big improvement during my first ride with it yesterday.
It still need to monitor if the main jet size fits perfectly the pipe.
I used the 170 dynojet size (157.5) as recommended by dynojet.

Let's see :)

It seems the header pipe is changing colors pretty fast, any genius idea to keep it shinny ?
I know it's pretty normal but it's faster than expected :(

About a thermal paint like the one people are using for engine painting ?
Does it stay long enough on a pipe ?

I heard some guys doing thermal painting inside and chroming outside, but it sounds more like a urban legend.

Just wonder how my genuine header kept his shape during 20 years :)

high temp spray paint should work, for a while, i'd use ceramic coating.

Hi guys,

I notice a serious increase of gaz consumption after installation of the 4-2-1 pipe and the dynojet stage 1. I just followed the dyno installation guide, replacing needles, springs, main jet 170 (little bit bigger than a 157.5). I just added 1/2 turn on the mixture screw since I had a slight backfire issue at first.
I'm at sea level with K&N filter and Y removed.
I don't do much highway here, mostly city driving with a range of 3000 - 5000 RPM.

I still need to check the plugs to see how they look like

Where should I start ? Going down size to 160 main jet (150) ? or adjusting the needles ?

The bike is running pretty well, pretty responsive from idle to 8000 RPM.

I will still ride it more to confirm it, but I consumed about 20% more than usual on the first full tank. Maybe I should wait to the next to be sure...

Check your plugs color.

In theory that "after exhaust mod you will run to rich" IMO you propably running to rich.

The question is where you runnig to rich?
Low, midrange or high rpm? :confused2:

That sounds like alot of jet. I'm running a Kerker 4-2-1 with a carbon can 2" baffle, K&N, Y shimmed 3/8", Needles running one shim and the rest of the carbs stock.

I'm using a Mikuni 150 main, and my A/F's are about 2 3/4 out on average. I'm getting in the low 40's on the highway and upper 30's-40 mpg around town 440ft above sea level.

last full tank I got 15 MPG in city driving lol
I feel driving a V8 supercharged in term of fuel consumption right now hahaha

Pretty similar, you're right.
I'm just at sea level and never got 40mpg even before :bang head::bang head:
The best I got was 26mpg.
It was with an exhaust leak on stock pipe and I cleaned the carbs and install the new setup.

I have the stock main jet and the dyno 160 which are little bit smaller if I remember (150). I think I will give a try soon after we're done with typhoon here.

You could easily cut 8 inches off that thing... It's WAY to long IMO.

Sounds good though!

I agree,

they are too long but if you took off 8 you would be left with less than 10.

A 10 inch can would look worse, i plan on taking mine down to about 14..

Carbon end to end on the standard over can is apx 17.875.

I ran a Marks setup for awhile with 12 inch cans, for me they looked to short, but we all have different tastes.

As far as the headers over is second to none. Fit and finish are both sublime, IMO of course. They also have a baffle at the outlet which can be removed for a bit more sound.

over 4 into 2 with stage 7 i have no problem getting 40 MPG and that was with really filthy carbs, just ask maleko.. Here we average about 1200 feet about sea level, i had 155 mikuni mains, dropping back down to 152.5..

Yeah it's about 17 to 18".
The pipe is really huge but doesn't look bad.
It's adding a massive look to the existing look of the v-max.
I didn't know the baffle could be removed on this one, I was just guessing.

I'm not sure cutting it to 10 or 12" will look good.
The can is almost 2 times wider than a kerker I have seen.
Then it will look really bad.

I'm planning to keep it that way and maybe to remove the baffle.
Cutting down to 14" or 16" could be an option later, like you I don't like much short cans.
For now I have other priorities (having the bike running perfectly and have it repainted and chromed), I might think about it later since I planning to renew the carbon sleeve.
Could be the opportunity to think about it.

The pipe is really good, I will have loved to keep the header shinny without having to polish it with my small hands every now and then lol

I found the pb, I had a fuel leak I didn't notice from the carbs.
I'm about to fix it and to get the 147.5 installed (when received from Sean).
Then we will see :)
